Boston Metal is commercializing cutting edge extractive metallurgy technology that will revolutionize primary metals production by improving metal quality while decreasing cost and lowering environmental impact. This growing, fast-paced startup company is looking for a Strategic Purchasing Specialist who will be responsible for assisting in the sourcing of critical material for capital projects, as well as the procurement, planning, and sourcing of material for our new production facility. This new position will report to the Senior Manager of Supply Chain.


Responsibilities:

  • and execute strategic sourcing strategies tailored to the unique needs of MOE technology, ensuring the timely procurement of environmentally sustainable materials.
  • and evaluate suppliers that align with our company's commitment to sustainability and carbon neutrality.
  • Collaborate closely with research and development (R&D) teams to forecast material requirements for ongoing MOE technology development projects.
  • Plan and procure materials needed for R&D activities, balancing the demands of an ever-changing, dynamic environment with the need for precision and accuracy.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with suppliers who share our vision for sustainable technology development, fostering collaboration and innovation.
  • Monitor supplier performance and compliance with environmental standards, ensuring alignment with our company's commitment to carbon neutrality.
  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with green supply chains, such as disruptions in the availability of eco-friendly materials or fluctuations in renewable energy prices.
  • Develop contingency plans to ensure continuity of supply and minimize the environmental impact of potential disruptions.
  • Negotiate and manage contracts with suppliers, incorporating provisions for sustainability and environmental responsibility.
  • Monitor contract performance and compliance, ensuring adherence to green procurement standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in green procurement processes, leveraging technology and data analytics to optimize supply chain efficiency.
  • Stay abreast of advancements in sustainable materials and technologies, seeking opportunities to integrate them into our supply chain and product development efforts

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management, or engineering
  • 3-5 years purchasing or planning experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Proven experience in strategic purchasing, procurement, and supplier management, preferably in a green technology or renewable energy industry.
  • Experience with product lifecycle development, especially new product introduction (NPI)
  • PR to PO experience with MRP/ERP systems (Oracle, SAP, NetSuite)
  • Ability to communicate clearly across engineering, operations, supply chain, and finance disciplines cross functional wear a lot of hats exper with engineer and project launch environment.
  • Professional written and verbal communication, interpersonal and organizational skills are vital
  • Working Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, such as DMAIC process or Six Sigma
  • Great problem-solving skills and the ability to facilitate decision making
  • Proficiency in supply chain management software and tools.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong attention to detail
