Examples of Duties
The overall purpose of this job is to assist in the cleanup of meals in the Dining Services Center.
Duties and Responsibilities

  • Set up, operation and maintenance of equipment (i.e. carousel, dish machine, conveyor, disposal, extractor units, ware washing station, etc.)
  • Clear and sort waste materials from dishware
  • Sort and load appropriate racks to be cleaned
  • Maintain separate dirty/clean areas to avoid cross-contamination
  • Transport clean dishware and silverware to appropriate service areas
  • Return prep/cook ware to appropriate production areas
  • Maintain time and temperature log of equipment and notify chef or supervisor of any problems
  • Provide guidance to student employees in utility/dish room area
  • Keep work area, front and back of house, clean and well-stocked
  • Assist with production and/or service as requested
  • Assist with catering functions as needed
  • Participate in training, as well as other departmental function requirements
  • Other duties as requested
Typical Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Ability to operate and maintain production equipment
  • Basic knife skills, and the ability to grill, saut, roast, broil, and fry food
  • Knowledge of proper/safe time and temperature for food handling
  • Ability to operate small kitchen equipment, including Robo-coup, mandolin, mixers, emersion blenders, potato peeler, etc.
  • Must have good customer service skills
  • Ability to work well independently as well as within a team
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required

Experience:
Experience dishwashing in an institutional setting

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to continuously stand and walk. The employee is also required to frequently balance, crouch, and stoop, as well as occasionally sit, kneel, crawl, reach and work overhead, climb stairs and ladders (up to 6 feet in height), and lift and carry 50 pounds, talk, and use hands to finger, handle, and/or feel. The employee is also required to frequently push and pull equipment on wheels that weighs up to 150 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
