About this position

This position is responsible for implementing curriculum and facilitating enriching classroom experiences while ensuring a safe and caring environment for the enrolled children. This role is responsible for following agency policies, providing supervision for enrolled children, and maintaining a quality program.

What you'll be doing

While in the classroom:

  • Substituting as needed and directed by the education coordinator;
  • Adjusting to the schedule and needs of the site where assigned;
  • Being flexible in daily assignments and ready to change site assignments, if necessary;
  • Planning and implementing preschool program based on the HighScope Curriculum;
  • Supervising and interacting with children in a positive manner;
  • Developing and maintaining learning centers which reflect the interests and needs of the children enrolled in the program;
  • Providing a wide variety of experiences for children with an emphasis on active learning;
  • Providing a well-supervised, safe environment;
  • Reading and implementing all agency and program policies and procedures;
  • Encouraging language development and respect for language diversity in the classroom and community;
  • Planning or participating in planning and implementing parent meetings and activities, including Family Nights;
  • Actively participating in in-service trainings'
  • Supervising associate teacher and assistant teacher in the classroom;
  • Using sensitivity and good judgment when interacting with children, parents, volunteers and staff;
  • Accomplishing other duties, as assigned, to create and maintain a quality preschool program;
  • Working effectively with other team members;
  • Providing a clean and sanitary facility (inside and out) on a daily basis ,according to Options for Learning's center based cleaning checklist;
  • Recruiting, training and supervising parents and other volunteers;
  • Promoting full enrollment and participating in recruitment of children, as directed;
  • Accurately completing all assigned paperwork and documentation on a timely basis, according to agency policies and procedures;
  • Assisting the education coordinator as needed;
  • Other duties as assigned.

While in the office:
  • Answering telephones and taking accurate messages;
  • Giving program information to inquiring families;
  • Light typing as needed;
  • Interacting with office and teaching staff in a positive manner;
  • Handling family and office files appropriately and confidentially;
  • Assisting family services manager and/or education manager as directed.

What you bring to the table
  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in child development or related field;
  • Child development teacher permit;
  • Three semester units in administration, with a passing grade of "C" or better;
  • Three years teaching experience;
  • Current certification in Pediatric CPR (yearly), Pediatric First Aid (yearly) and Preventative Health which is acceptable to Community Care Licensing (Health and Safety code 1596.866);
  • Ability to correctly and effectively communicate in written and oral English .

Job specifications
  • Reports to the site director;
  • Full-time, twelve-month approximate work year;
  • Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required;
  • Employment, responsibilities, compensation, or any other factor may be affected by changes in governmental regulations, the agency's contracts, or at agency discretion.


Salary Description

$25.60 - $31.89/ hr
