Description

Vincennes University is seeking applicants for a Mining Program Director. This is a full-time professional staff position located in Fort Branch, IN.

Vincennes University's Mining and Safety Program provides training for experienced and inexperienced miners, job seeking to become miners, and those who work in other fields as contractors but perform their duties in the mine setting across the State of Indiana. Workers involved in surface and underground mining of coal, metal and non-metal materials are required by the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) to undergo extensive and ongoing safety training, and VU's program provides the training and related certification according to Federal regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities

  • Direct the Program to achieve the goals and objectives of the MSHA State Grants Program for Indiana
  • Train miners and contractors under Part 48 and Part 46 as required
  • Become well versed in the application and Training for both the Part 48A (underground)
    48B (Surface) areas and Training Plans for both 46 and 48.
  • Supervise roster of adjunct instructors and support staff
  • Manage the MSHA grant to ensure compliance with MSHA grant guidelines
  • Direct and develop training resources from program instructors to implement in the classroom
  • Apply MSHA training regulations and policies to the decision-making process regarding compliance training requests from mining companies and contractors
  • Coordinate and schedule students for New Miner Training, Refresher classes, Electrical Classes, First Aid Training, etc.
  • Work closely with mining community, Indiana Mine Rescue Association, Indiana Coal Council, Indiana Mineral Aggregates Association, CEDAR (Coal Education Development and Resources) Indiana Bureau of Mines and MSHA (active leadership or membership on an above association is preferred)
  • Maintain and update program website, with the assistance of support staff
  • Be responsible for all fiscal tracking, expense monitoring, and budget development in
  • accordance with VU and Grant policies
  • Monitor the collection, recording, and deposit of all fees received
  • Active Membership on advisory committees and relevant associations, as deemed appropriate by Business and Industry Director
  • Some travel required

Required and Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree directly related to mining is preferred
  • Experience as manager or supervisor required, with a Grant Program or MSHA program preferred
  • Certified as an approved MSHA instructor under CFR Title 30, Part 48
  • Excellent organization and recordkeeping skills
  • Effective interpersonal/communication skills, and a proven record of networking
  • Excellent grammar and spelling skills
  • Computer knowledge required - specifically in advanced Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and email
  • Minimum of ten years working in the mining field, required
  • Knowledge of Underground Mine Rescue but not Qualified
