Key Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities

  • Support NBHS by attending community service and outreach activities.
  • Monitor adherence to school policies and procedures before, during and after school.
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Assist with recruitment, marketing, and retention of students.
  • Attend school related functions and meetings.
  • Ensure that all visitors are following NBHS safety guidelines and reinforce social distancing.
  • Complete reports (as requested).
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Support school Mission by assisting with home visits.
  • Assess student progress and determine the needs for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques.
  • Employ various teaching techniques, methods, and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals.
  • Provide consultation to classroom teachers regarding classroom adaptations, instructional modifications, adaptive equipment, behavior modification plans, and other instructional interventions to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
  • Work cooperatively with child study team members and others in developing instructional goals and strategies.
  • Coordinate the delivery of special education services in each student's IEP.
  • Create a positive learning experience with emphasis in individualized instruction using appropriate sources.
  • Maintain open and regular communication through conferences and data chats with parents, students, colleagues, and principals to discuss academic, behavioral, and social progress.
  • Enforce and uphold the school's mission, vision, values, policies, culture, and model the school's values in all interactions with students, colleagues, families, and the community.
  • Comply with the standards of conduct, ethics, and/or conflicts of interest for teachers and/or employees of the school.
  • Attend department, staff, school, district, and parent meetings.
  • Participate in various students and school activities.
  • Maintain current state licensure(s) and/or certification(s) as required by the law.
  • Support in the writing of IEPs


General Duties

  • Provide direct and indirect instructional support to students in a positive environment
  • Employ special educational strategies and techniques during instruction to improve the development of sensory- and perceptual-motor skills, language, cognition, and memory
  • Instruct students in academic subjects using a variety of techniques such as phonetics, multi-sensory learning, and repetition to reinforce learning and to meet students' varying needs and interests.
  • Teach socially acceptable behavior, as determined by the students' individualized education programs (IEPs) by employing techniques in an overall positive behavioral support system. Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining an environment conducive to learning for all students.
  • Provide services in accordance with the IEP.
  • Compile and maintain special education compliant files.
  • Conduct assessments as needed for special education eligibility. Monitor and report progress toward IEP goals and objectives.
  • Complete all activities required for compliance with IDEA. Maintain accurate special education records.
  • Support students and parents with student placement, curriculum, and instructional issues.
  • Communicate regularly and develop positive relationships with parents and staff.
  • Keep detailed documentation from parent/student conferences.
  • Alert administrators of any concerns about student progress and/or truancy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of basic software applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Google Pages)
  • Background check and fingerprinting clearance
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university
  • Valid Florida Educator's Certificate
  • Knowledge and ability to operate standard office equipment
  • Knowledge of applicable computer software and hardware process applications such as spreadsheets, word-processing, database and operating systems, and/or presentation software
  • Valid Florida driver's license, reliable transportation and valid automobile insurance
