Description

The Position:

Richards offers an exciting career opportunity for a motivated Material Handler/Saw Operator, who reports directly to the Production Manager. The Material Handler role is crucial for managing the flow of materials within our production facility. The primary function of the Material Handler/Saw Operator is to process the flow of bar stock and goods both from the Industrial Hyd-Mech hydraulic band saws and from Inventory Warehouse to the required machine centers in a timely manner. The quantity should be accurate, and the quality of the goods should be taken into consideration as well. The secondary functions of the position are to learn how to operate and maintain the proper working order of the saws. Also, keeping the Manager apprised of any eventuality that may jeopardize the company's ability to meet customer needs should be communicated effectively as well.

Principle Responsibilities:

Material Handling/Saw Operation

  • Properly identifies and moves material to the correct staging area or machine center
  • Verifies dimensions and part quantities pulled against required quantities
  • Verifies material and conformance to industry specifications as defined by the router and standards
  • Maintains clean and organized saws completing
  • Delivers goods throughout the plant using fork-truck/dollies/pallet jacks and other material handling equipment

Stocking/Inventory Control
  • Makes accurate and timely inventory transactions within the AS400 operating system, to ensure inventory accuracy.

Continuous Improvement Initiatives
  • Embraces Richards Industries Lean/Continuous Improvement ideas and vision
  • Employee monitor/inspect all equipment, machines, and testing apparatuses per our preventative maintenance processes.
  • Follows 5s principles (Sort/Set/Shine/Standardize/Sustain) to keep work areas clean, organized and visual.
  • Participates in Continuous Improvement initiatives including kaizens, layout events, practicing 5s principles, and other lean programs.

Qualifications:
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Certifications: Ability to obtain Forklift certification
  • Proven experience in a manufacturing environment


Skills/Special knowledge/Abilities:
  • Experience in manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of general safety procedures
  • Understanding of hand tools
  • Moderate computer aptitude/abilities
  • Ability to operate pallet jacks and fork trucks
  • Excellent communication skills

Physical & Mental Demands:
  • Capable of safely handling 50 lb. to 200 lb. valve bodies and bar stock with the assistance of hand trucks, lifts, conveyors, and hoists
  • Ability to stand for long periods up to eight hours or more at a time.
  • Ability to work occasional weekends and overtime when scheduled
  • Must adhere to all safety policies including wearing all required personal protective equipment while in shop area.
