JOB SUMMARY

To oversee all aspects of press operation, setting fountains on new jobs, color and repair press as needed. To manage and coordinate the operation of the machine and personnel in an efficient/productive manner.


Assumes the responsibility of the Press Room Operator when he/she is absent. This is a union position, shifts are assigned according to seniority and there is no shift guarantee.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Report personnel or product safety concerns to management.
  • Assist department personnel, as directed by Supervisor, in work assignments to maintain schedule.
  • Direct and assist personnel in daily production needs.
  • Assist in shift changeovers by reviewing schedule with the following shift.
  • Assess and maintain quality of product.
  • Oversee maintenance of equipment and of work areas.
  • To manage the installation of printing plates, ink, fountain solution in a manner necessary to ensure the proper function of the press.
  • To bring the machine to Job OK inspection in an expedient manner.
  • Approve Jobs to run according to the Job Approval Procedure (excluding first shift)
  • To deliver evenly stacked and properly counted loads identified by a load tag.
  • To inspect for quality, check for offset on every load produced.
  • The load tag will include the item description, load sequence number, operator initials, shift number and date of run.
  • If deficiency is found, correction is required immediately and must be labeled with a red tag.
  • Directs and supervises Lumpers in the winding and re-piling of material onto the feeder tray and checks on the correct running sequence, proper sheet orientation with regard to stripper edge and side guide.
  • Instruct Lumpers on proper execution of daily duties, the basics of press operation, and train and promote job advancement.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with departmental and company personnel.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include: checking work, maintaining quality and quantity standards, organizing work, prioritizing and delegating work assignments as directed by upper management.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must fully understand all phases of the Stochos system.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Fifth Year College or university program certificate; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, write short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence, effectively present information one-on-one, small groups, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, percents, and to draw bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
