Description

Farmer

Barn

The farmer position at Mountain View Farm is one of agri-tourism. We are a fiber farm-raising llamas, alpacas, goats, sheep and rabbits for their fiber, to be turned into yarn, which we sell to our guests. We also raise ducks and chickens to provide eggs for breakfast, as well as grow some fruits and vegetables for our chef's creations (possible spring/summer tasks).

The farmer position is two part. First is to take excellent care of our animals and the farm itself. Secondly, which is of equal importance, is to entertain and educate our resort guests. The farmer leads farm tours & educational talks, helps process our fiber, teaches fiber workshops, feeds and cares for the animals, does daily barn cleaning chores, cares for the medical needs of the animals, and maintains the gardens, ...all while being friendly and welcoming to our resort guests.

Farmers need to be outgoing, and willing to engage with guests. The farmer meets a large percentage of our guests on a daily basis.

Skills and abilities include speaking and understanding English, addressing large groups of people, and having the presence of mind to maintain composure in a high volume environment.

Minimum education of high school diploma/GED.

Experience with the care of llamas, alpacas, sheep, goats, rabbits, ducks & chickens a plus, but will train ideal candidate.

A compassionate attitude to farm animals is a must.

Physical elements require the ability to lift and transport 50 pounds on a daily basis, work in extreme weather conditions, safely use farm equipment, regularly walk to and from resort's main building, and adapt to barn noise levels, dust & odors.

At Mountain View Farm our farmers take the time to know each and every animal and treat them with respect and patience. Each animal has a name, birthday, and a unique personality.
