Description

The Staff Accountant will be responsible for the day-to-day management of select properties to ensure all accounting functions, which are necessary to present complete, accurate, and timely financial statements and analysis reports are performed. This position will generally work normal business hours and be expected to consistently meet the requirements of an 8:30-5:00 Monday-Friday schedule. Flexibility in schedule is essential in order to meet deadlines.

The Staff Accountant will be able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven environment. This position typically works independently as a member of the financial operations team and will be expected to take ownership of new tasks with a high level of difficulty.

Additionally, the Staff Accountant will be well organized and have exceptional time management skills in order to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. The ability to problem solve using sound judgment and initiative is essential as well as having a positive attitude and professional appearance.

Duties include and are not limited to:

Creating and reviewing Journal entries and month-end for AP and AR areas

Maintaining resident confidence and protecting operations by keeping financial information confidential

Processing and reviewing bank transfers, bank reconciliations and bi-weekly payroll funding

Entering, printing and obtaining signatures on accounts payables checks

Preparing and reviewing analysis of accounts

Reviewing financial statements for variances from budget

Assisting with and reviewing budgets

Processing submission of HUD replacement reserve requests and sales tax returns

Assisting Director of Financial Operations in preparation of schedules and preparation/gathering of other materials required/requested by auditors performing external audit

Performing and initiating special projects for the Director of Financial Operations

Preparing and reviewing resale or new construction closing statements

Providing back-up coverage for the other Accountants during planned and unplanned absences and vacations

Requirements

EXPERIENCE

Minimum of three years of related accounting or financial experience in a private environment, preferably multi-entity, preparing and analyzing financial information is required. A thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) is required. Prior tax preparation and/or audit experience is required as well as demonstrated proficiency in interpersonal skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills when responding to internal and external customers is required. Minimum skill level of Intermediate in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is required. Familiarity with Yardi software is preferred but not required.

EDUCATION

Associates Degree in accounting or finance is required; a Bachelors Degree in accounting or finance is preferred. A combination of relevant education and experience will be considered in lieu of a college degree.

Salary Description

$23 to $26 per hour
