JOB SUMMARY

The Facilities Maintenance Technician performs preventive and corrective maintenance and repairs on electrical, electronic and mechanical equipment used and operated at water treatment plants, pump stations and telemetering stations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical equipment and system components, including but not limited to valves, pumps, motors, etc.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and repairs of electrical components and systems, including but not limited to relays, electric starters, electrical and manual valve operators.
  • Repairs and services plant and pump station electronic transmitters, receivers, elevation and flow signals, and pressure signals.
  • Performs routine maintenance and repair of pump stations, storage tanks, treatment plants, pressure reducing valves, office spaces and other facilities as necessary.
  • Reviews flow charts, pressure charts, etc., to monitor equipment performance.
  • Maintains an adequate inventory of tools, parts and equipment.
  • Prepares maintenance records of all equipment/system maintenance and repair work; maintains inventory records.
  • Provides daily reconciliations, including work orders, requisitions, and purchase orders.
  • Must be able to read and interpret mechanical diagrams.
  • Collects water samples at remote sites as needed.
  • Transfers power to emergency generators and back-up engines as needed.
  • Climbs storage tanks for repairs and inspections.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • On call rotation


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

A High School Diploma or GED and two (2) years of experience in mechanical and/or electrical maintenance and repair work in an industrial environment; or possession of any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Should have general understanding of how to operate and conduct basic maintenance of equipment used in a water system. Should have experience with a CMMS program and how it is utilized.

Must be able to obtain a Distribution Operator "D" classification, within 2 years. Must obtain and maintain a valid South Carolina driver's license. Must obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid certifications.
