TITLE: BUS AIDE

EMPLOYMENT: Ten (10) month year. Hourly salary and work year to be established by the Board of Education.

REPORTS TO: Transportation Coordinator

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Sound physical and mental health.

  2. Ability to control behavior and assist students in utilizing school vehicles.

  3. Must be able to climb steps and move quickly without restrictions to the back of the bus during a bus evacuation.

  4. Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.

  5. Must be able to work cooperatively with staff.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  1. Required to stand, sit, walk and use hands and arms strength continuously while performing the duties of the job.

  2. Required to frequently bend, squat and twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job especially securing a wheel chair in the 4 point tie system.

  3. Required to frequently move or lift up to 50 pounds in assisting a child into a booster or car seat.

  4. Must be able to go up and down bus steps repeatedly without restrictions.

  5. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

  6. Must be able to move on and off the bus quickly and without restrictions.

  7. Must be able to project the voice loudly but in control so all students can receive instructions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provide for the safe, orderly and efficient use of school vehicles by assigned students.

  2. Be physically able to assist students from their home onto the vehicle and from the vehicle into their assigned school and vice versa on return.

  3. Have basic knowledge of first aid procedures and complete a Red Cross Basic Course in first aid within one year of initial employment.

4 Assist the bus driver in maintaining order on the bus. Any serious incident in nature is to be reported to the building principal by the bus driver.

  1. Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the School Business Administrator.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of supportive staff personnel
