Work Schedule: Part time - 40 Biweekly Hours
Shift: 8-hour, Days **Job Summary:** Under general supervision acts as liaison between the patient (infant, adolescent, adult, and geriatric), nursing and Nutritional Care Services. Performs menu activities for patients of all ages including infant, adolescent, adult, and geriatric. Job requires both clinical nutrition and customer service skills. Job duties include menu modification, delivery, collection, and tallies; patient food preference interview to determine nutritional risk and special food needs; tray delivery and assembly; and performance improvement activities. **Essential Functions:**
* Menu Selections:
* Using CBORD and MEDITECH diet list, NA obtains patient meal selections in accordance with the ordered diet using sacred moments scene and patient experience scripting. NA offers a complete meal that includes all components as desired by the patient and fulfills meal patterns as outlined in CBORD.
* Individual preferences are considered in the offering of meal choices. Preferences are noted in CBORD immediately following interaction with patient.
* Food allergies are noted, and meal choices are offered accordingly.
* NA communicates with supervisor and/or Registered Dietitian as needed regarding menu selection challenges or patient education needs.
* Performs delivery of meal trays to patients using sacred moments scene and patient experience scripting. Follows department standards in checking patient identifiers, obtaining additional food items, allergy confirmation, communication with nursing if patient needs are outside of NA scope.
* Participates in patient tray assembly as assigned by ensuring compliance and accuracy of meal trays. Communicates with trayline staff and supervisor to meet presentation and food quality goals. Participates in pre-service meeting.
* Performs the following additional duties:
* Participates in ongoing competency validation and department education as assigned.
* Serves as preceptor to clinical staff as assigned. Able to lead and train staff in clinical food service environment.
* Uses customer service skills in performing job responsibilities to patients, families, visitors, and staff.
* Participates in performance improvement activities as assigned.
* Uses safe food handling techniques and follows required food sanitation policies and procedures.
**Skills:**
* Knowledge of normal nutrition and modified diets for all age groups from pediatric to geriatrics.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Excellent customer services skills.
* Basic math skills.
* Visual abilities for observation of patients, reading, writing, and tray assembly and for reading computer screens and tablets.
* Ability to project a caring attitude.
* Ability to work in a team environment with fellow staff members.
* Proficient in required competencies upon completion of orientation, as listed on the unit specific competency inventory.
* Competencies should include some or all of the following: contribution to team, leaderships, work ethic, dependability, customer service skills, and medical nutrition therapy knowledge.
* High degree of knowledge and skills in performing the responsibilities of a Nutrition Assistant or equivalent.
**Minimum Position Requirements:** **Experience:** 6 months experience in a food service/customer oriented field. **Preferred Position Qualifications:** **Education:** Bachelor's Degree in Dietetics, in accredited program. **Licenses/Certifications:** Dietetic Technician Registered (DTR) or DTR eligible, or 6 months experience at Mission Hospital.
