Georgia State University's Instructional Innovation and Technology (IIT) is seeking System Administrator, Lead to join our vibrant and growing team. Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of Enterprise Computing, the System Administrator, Lead is a professional staff position within the Enterprise Computing Unit.

HERE'S WHAT YOU WILL DO

The scope of responsibilities for this position will include these essential duties but is not limited to the following:

Evaluate new technology and techniques for suitability and incorporation into our computing infrastructure when appropriate

Participate in and/or lead the design and implementation of solutions to meet customer requirements.

Apply patches, update, and perform general maintenance and repair on productions systems to ensure continued security, availability, reliability, and functionality.

Provide level 3 support: Diagnose and resolve complex multi-system problems with operating systems, hardware and/or storage problems supported by this team.

Document system configuration, installation, and maintenance processes

Mentor junior staff and direct their work associated with projects they are managing.

In sum, as a Systems Administrator, Lead, you will need expert knowledge of Operating Systems, Hardware, and Storage. This position is responsible for the creation of new solutions, the enhancement of existing solutions, the diagnosis of complex problems, and the repair of existing solutions.

Qualifications:

Minimum Hiring Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree and Three years of related experience, or a combination of education and related experience.

Preferred Hiring Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated expertise in configuring and managing in Linux Operating System (Red Hat variants preferred)
  • Strong programming skills in a scripting language such as Perl, Python or Powershell
  • Experience managing enterprise backup solutions such as CommVault and knowledge of DNS management
  • Experience in configuration and patch management and with VMware ESX or other virtualization technologies
  • Strong understanding of operating system performance tuning and of system administration and security best

    practices
