Function / Position Summary

Provide assistance in the implementation of School Nutrition Program guidelines and requirements in accordance with Federal, State, and Local regulations. Ensures safe and effective school department operations through office management, communications, collaboration with other staff, and directed procedures. Must exercise strong time management, multitasking, and prioritizing skills. Utilize excellent verbal and written communication skills to ensure all timelines are met. Maintain confidentiality of student/staff information in the school and community.

Job Duties / Responsibilities

  • Manages and trains in maintenance of the FOH/BOH Point of Sale software.
  • Maintain USDA and department-mandated professional development to ensure compliance.
  • Track Information Services and Point of Sale maintenance issue ticket updates and repairs. Ensure tickets are closed within an acceptable timeframe.
  • Oversee office functions as it relates to internal document creation, ordering for uniforms, specialty items, and supply distribution, and assist with office supply orders.
  • Coordinate with District Internal Auditors, Food & Nutrition Services regarding updates and creation of district documents including policies, procedures, and manuals.
  • Collaborate with Information Services to maintain technology inventory, and other departments as needed.
  • Monitor and update Food & Nutrition Services website.
  • Create and distribute Food & Nutrition Services communication to include monthly newsletters, staff communication, and information for the websites, etc.
  • Responsible for placing supplemental Smart Snack orders.
  • Provide high-level administrative support to staff in support of the department's goals.
  • Coordinate departmental events and meetings, maintains proper documentation, and record meeting minutes for staff meetings.
  • Assist in the hiring and onboarding process of new employees, adhering to the policies set forth in the department's employee handbook and contractual bargaining agreement.
  • Manage confidential documents, contracts, and other critical information as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Food & Nutrition Services Administrators.
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred or a minimum of five years of extensive professional experience.
  • Must possess a valid Certified Professional Food Manager Certification, previously known as a sanitation certificate. Certificate shall be obtained by the start of the second school term of employment.
  • Current Illinois Driver's License
  • Earn and/or maintain School Nutrition Association certification level 1 or higher within the first year of employment.
Experience / Knowledge
  • Knowledge of Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Software.
  • Capability to maintain complex records and express ideas and directives effectively, verbally and written.
  • Strong ability to provide a high level of customer service to students, staff, parents, and team members.
  • Knowledge of food storage methods, inventory methods, department policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Ability to plan and organize work to maintain effective working relations as necessitated by work assignments.
  • Ability to set goals and establish process plans for completion.
  • Experience using Point of Sale systems.
Environmental Conditions
  • Indoors in a busy office environment with exposure to noise and communication.
  • May be required to leave main work site to attend meetings.
  • Public contact requires appropriate business-like apparel.
  • Traveling with in district: reliable transportation and working in schools is required.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to work on a computer for 50% of scheduled shift.
  • Ability to assist in lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in a very fast-paced and stressful environment with unscheduled interruptions.
  • Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to work in hot and cold conditions.
Terms of Employment
  • This is a twelve (12) month full-time position. Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education.
  • Must complete all Food Service and District-mandated GCN tutorials, monthly safety training, and department-sponsored training per USDA requirements by their due dates.
  • Attend all meetings and trainings as required.
Salary Information
  • The full salary range for this position is $41,142.40 - $61,713.60. It is our typical practice to hire in between the minimum and midpoint ($51,417.60).
