Overview

Cincinnati State Technical & Community College maintains is own campus police force of full and part-time officers. Cincinnati State Police Officers engage in all facets of campus operations and promote positive student engagement and employee relations at four (4) campus locations (Clifton, Harrison, Middletown, Evendale). Campus Police Officers are responsible for enforcement, development and oversight of the College's comprehensive safety, facility security, crime prevention, parking enforcement, fire prevention, emergency preparedness, traffic safety, and environmental health and safety standards and protocols. Campus Police Officers conform to appropriate professional standards and protocols of law enforcement with respect to enforcement activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Initiates vehicle and/or foot patrol activities for the prevention of crime, the enforcement of laws and regulations, and to provide public/student services.

* Monitors and directs traffic, provides information and related services to ensure the safe flow of traffic and prevent congestion, and enforces campus parking and traffic regulations.

* Ensures that all incidents and arrest activities are thoroughly and appropriately investigated and documented, and that the findings are fully-supported by the relevant evidence and communicated to the appropriate stake holders in a timely manner.

* Provides presence and maintains the peace at campus events, including unlocking building doors for individuals to provide access.

* Provides protection against trespass, theft and damage to property and/or threats to the personal safety of College employees, students and visitors.

* Prepares clear, accurate and comprehensive written reports, parking citations, daily activity logs, and related legal and administrative documentation.

* Prepares cases for presentation in court and testifies as a witness when called.

* Reports maintenance issues, security deficiencies, and hazardous conditions that may appear across campus locations.

* Obtains evidence and compile information regarding criminal activity and assists, as needed with investigations related to potential violations of the Student Code of Conduct, Title IX, and College policies and procedures.

* Responds to emergency calls within the building and provides emergency first aid and CPR or patient escort service when needed.

* Cooperates and assists with other law enforcement and emergency services agencies upon request in ensuring maintenance of public safety on college grounds.

* Arrests and detain suspects as required for responding public safety agency and reports arrests for felony offenses to the appropriate public safety agency immediately for transporting and booking of the arrestee by that agency.

* Assists with the development and execution of college safety and prevention strategies, and training.

* Successfully completes training and continuing education requirements in a timely manner to conform to police officer requirements.

* Supports the mission of the College and the Campus Police Department.

* Exhibits the highest degree of respect, professionalism, and courtesy in serving the needs of the Campus community, including due consideration of the need to protect individual rights and dignity of faculty, students, and staff without regard to race, color, physical or mental ability, age, gender, ethnicity, or membership in any other protected class.

* Performs other work-related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

* High School Diploma or GED.

* Certification through the Ohio Peace Officer Basic Training Commission (OPOTC).

* Ability to work holidays, weekends and variable shifts in all weather and conditions.

* Valid and current CPR/AED/First Aid certification.

* Valid and current drivers' license and good driving record.

* Ability to successfully pass extensive background, reference and drug screening process.

* Commitment to the mission, vision and values of the College, including the value of shared governance and philosophy of providing friendly, knowledgeable service and assistance to the Campus community and surrounding areas.

Preferred Qualifications

* Successful completion of College coursework in a relevant field or discipline; Bachelor's Degree from accredited College or university preferred.

* Prior experience in community-based policing or relevant higher education law enforcement experience.

* Working knowledge of local, state, and federal laws as applied to higher education law enforcement.

* Knowledge of law enforcement operations, including facility security, crime prevention, criminal investigations, training, fire prevention, emergency preparedness, traffic safety and enforcement, and related environmental health and safety standards and developments in each of these fields.

* OSHA certification(s).

* Understanding of the College community and active commitment to policing reflecting its unique customer needs and concerns.

* Acts with a high degree of integrity and conscientiousness.

* Strong commitment to diversity and inclusion, including demonstrated understanding of multi-cultural competency and ability to build effective, collaborative relationships within an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.

* Ability to follow all campus policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.

* Familiarity with computer applications currently used by Department personnel and dispatchers.

Details

Compensation: $21.43/hr. starting

Contractual Affiliation: FOP (Full-Time only)

Exempt Classification: Non-exempt
