Machine Operator

Job Purpose Statement:

Ice Cream Makers perform a variety of routine tasks in support of manufacturing. Primary function of this position includes material/product handling and providing Manufacturing and Quality Assurance support. This position works collaboratively to achieve Dreyer's business objectives of safety, productivity, customer service, quality, and environmental protection.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the highest quality product by performing all required procedures, quality checks and documentation to meet specifications.
  • Measure and supervise critical control points and make appropriate process changes to keep process running in control.
  • Operate and troubleshoot equipment.
  • Speak directly with co-workers on issues, discuss ideas with others, encourage performance in others, give feedback when needed, and train new employees when applicable.
  • Disassemble, clean/sanitize, and reassemble all required equipment.
  • Maintain line housekeeping and sanitation including performing CIP/COP hookups.
  • Continuously improve/optimize current products and processes in our factories according to local business needs and supply situation and/or implementation of initiatives. Develop, approve, maintain, and sustain our products, process standards, and specifications.
  • Conduct required quality checks on product.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
  • Engagement/Contribute to Safety and Quality minded culture by speaking up, being mindful, get involved, abiding by the rules, and caring for the environment.

Position Qualifications:
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Aptitude for automated mechanical processes with good troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
  • Ability to read and write legibly in English.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, math and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work multiple shifts and/or schedules.
  • High School diploma or GED
  • One-year related experience (preferred).

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, climb stairs, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to stand; use hands to finger; handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; taste or smell; and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and depending on the area assigned may regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

In this position, the employee will regularly work with and around others; in a wet and/or humid environment; in areas of high noise level; and around mechanical, electrical, and pressurized equipment. The work is fast paced.

The pay scale for this role considers the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The pay scale disclosed below has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The pay range for prospective employees in this role is $21.09 per hour.
