Rosie's Place was founded in 1974 as the first women's shelter in the United States. Our mission is to provide a safe and nurturing environment to help poor and homeless women maintain their dignity, seek opportunity and find security in their lives.

Over the years, we have become much more than a shelter. We are a multi-service community center that not only provides meals and shelter but also creates answers for thousands of women a year through wide-ranging support, housing and education services. Rosie's Place relies on the generous support of individuals, foundations and corporations and does not accept any city, state or federal funding.

OPPORTUNITY

The Volunteer Services Associate ensures smooth daily operations of a large volunteer program that engages interested community members and addresses unmet organizational needs. Working as a member of the Community Engagement team, and reporting to the Volunteer and Intern Manager, they create transformative service-learning experiences that build community and inspire social justice action.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with all aspects of a high-volume volunteer and internship program including recruitment, screening, selection, orientation, training, supervision, recognition and retention.
  • Communicate the organization's mission and services as well as department's policies, procedures, and opportunities accurately and compassionately in person one-on-one and in groups as well as through emails, phone calls and virtual meetings.
  • Connect with community members to explore their skills and interests and encourage them to deepen their connection with the organization, the community and social justice work.
  • Support logistics of episodic volunteer opportunities as well as ongoing long term and special skilled volunteer positions through administrative assistance and volunteer coordination including orienting, scheduling, supervising, and recognizing community members.
  • Perform data entry - including processing registration forms, managing volunteer schedule, tracking service hours - using the volunteer management database Volgistics.
  • Establish, maintain and cultivate collaborative relationships with all stakeholders including staff, guests, volunteers and community members.
  • Answer inquiries, receive products, record deliveries, process items and distribute in-kind donated goods received from community members.
  • Attend required trainings as assigned by the Volunteer and Intern Manager.

  • Experience working with volunteers strongly preferred.
  • Strong commitment to social justice and the mission of Rosie's Place.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and follow-through, ability to work on multiple tasks in a growing and changing environment.
  • Proven ability to work flexibly and creatively within a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and desire to work with volunteers who provide and need varying levels of support.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate the mission and philosophy of Rosie's Place.
  • Strong customer service mindset with effective and diplomatic, yet supportive communication style.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise sound judgement and think quickly on your feet.
  • Ability to take ownership of tasks ferrying them to completion while balancing working collaboratively as well as independently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and experience with database management preferred.
  • Be physically able to safely lift up to 50lbs, reach, bend and stoop.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

Job duties are performed in an office setting. Day to day work includes lifting, stocking and sorting as well as interaction with staff, guests, and volunteers. Individuals must be physically able to safely lift up to 50 pounds, reach, bend and stoop, as well as stand for long periods of time.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The starting salary range for this full-time, exempt position is $52,000-$65,000, commensurate with experience.

In an effort to increase equity, and because we know that salary negotiations tend to have an unfair bias, we do not participate in salary negotiations outside of this stated starting salary range.

WORK EXPECTATIONS AT ROSIE'S PLACE

We are a hands-on team and seek employees who are passionate about our work and service to our community. The Volunteer Services Associate is expected to work onsite at Rosie's Place during their work week and engage regularly with staff, guests, and volunteers. The position may require travel between Rosie's Place buildings or community locations.

We continue to adapt to safety protocols related to COVID-19 as we understand them, and all employees must follow our safety protocols. Among these protocols, we require all employees to be up to date with their COVID vaccinations. Requests for medical or religious exemptions from the COVID vaccination are considered.
