Set to open summer 2022, adjacent to the Hampton Roads Convention Center and Hampton Coliseum, this state-of-the-art facility is the largest of its kind in Virginia. Purpose-built for competitive aquatics, the Aquaplex was designed to host Mid-Atlantic and national competitive swimming and diving events, artistic swimming, water polo, and more. Spectator seating for 1,500 overlook the eight-lane, 50-meter pool with two moveable bulkheads. Seating for 760 athletes occupies the wide, spacious pool decks for the smoothest of swim and dive event execution. Swimmer warm-up and warm-down is a breeze in the eight-lane, 25-yard programming pool, and nearby multi-purpose rooms provide space for event staging and hospitable functionality. A culinary center with two purchase points ensures spectators never miss an exciting moment.

The Hampton Virginia Aquaplex is currently accepting applications for Concessions Attendant. The Concessions Attendant is responsible for providing outstanding guest service, receiving and processing payments, serving food and beverage items in a timely manner, as well as preparing and cooking food in a timely manner according to menu standards. In addition, the Concessions Attendant is responsible for engaging with guests behind the customer service counter, as well as beyond the service counter. This part-time position reports to the the Food & Beverage Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

FRONT OF THE HOUSE

Operate cash register and Point of Sale (POS) System

Engage with members and guests to include greeting customers, and providing friendly and professional service

Provide excellent guest service

Observe guests to anticipate their needs and respond quickly to requests

Build rapport with members and guests

Upsell food and beverage items

Actively produce new ideas for business success and efficiency

Serve food and beverage items in a timely manner

Open and close the Front of the House (FOH)

Clean and maintain the Front of the House

Clean and maintain the Concession area

Organize, stock, and control inventory

Constantly circulate around the dining area to maintain cleanliness and interact with the guests

Communicate with managers regarding FOH issues

Possess strong guest service skills

Able to multi-task

Able work irregular shifts to include nights, weekends, and holidays as needed

Able to stand and/or walk for the duration of the shift (8 or more hours)

Able to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with team members at all levels of the organization

Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed, required, or assigned by the Food & Beverage Supervisor, Regional Food & Beverage Director and/or the General Manager

KITCHEN

  • Clean food preparation areas, cooking surfaces, and utensils.
  • Cook the exact number of items ordered by each customer, working on several different orders simultaneously.
  • Maintain sanitation, health, and safety standards in work areas.
  • Measure ingredients required for specific food items being prepared.
  • Operate large-volume cooking equipment such as grills, deep-fat fryers, or griddles.
  • Pre-cook items in order to prepare them for later use.
  • Verify that prepared food meets requirements for quality and quantity.
  • Wash, cut, and prepare foods designated for cooking.
  • Clean, stock, and restock workstations.


Requirements

Minimum 1 year cooking experience, preferably high volume (preferred).

Education and/or Experience: Less than high school education; or up to one-month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals in English. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages. Ability to make change in US currency.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.). Upon hire and training, the individual must be able to successfully utilize the facility Point of Sale software (i.e. - Micros, Clover, etc.) and Timeclock software.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess the following:

Food Handlers Certification (within 60 days of employment)

Age Requirements: Due to hours of operation, the individual must be at least 16 years of age; 18 years of age if the facility sells alcoholic beverages.
