ROLE

We need a Full-Time Librarian for the Department of Justice, Library Staff of the Justice Management Division (JMD). The JMD Library Staff's collections primarily consist of legal materials, with the Main Library housing extensive holdings and special collections, while the 4CON and branch libraries contain Federal legal resources and subject-specific materials.Top of FormBottom of Form Your role as a Librarian for the DOJ JMD will be to provide a wide range of Library Support Functions for the JMD s libraries. RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist in discarding materials withdrawn from the collection according to established procedures.

Shift parts of the collection as needed to accommodate growth and improve user access.

Retrieve library titles/materials from off-site locations.

Locate materials requested by staff or users that are not on the shelf.

Prepare shelves, drawer labels, guide cards, and other organizational materials as needed.

Ensure correct order of titles on shelves through shelf-reading.

Ensure accurate and neat labeling of library materials and spaces.

Notify the designated representative of missing items or discrepancies.

Assist in the preparation of shelves and materials for daily use.

Assist in the organization and maintenance of microforms.

Assist in the shifting of the collection as instructed.

Maintain a neat and orderly collection, ensuring items are easily accessible.

Assist in the repair or rebinding of materials as needed.

Coordinate the recall of library materials needed by other DOJ staff.

Notify borrowers of overdue materials and manage the recall process.

Respond to requests from outside libraries for materials in the collection.

Borrow materials needed for DOJ staff from other libraries.

Maintain records of incoming and outgoing interlibrary loans.

Monitor materials borrowed from other libraries and ensure timely return.

Make regular runs to the Library of Congress for materials not available through interlibrary loan.

Process interlibrary loan requests promptly and courteously.

Keep accurate records of interlibrary loan transactions and statistics.

Handle requests for materials from Library staff, users, and other libraries.

Retrieve materials from various locations in response to user requests.

Process cataloged materials, including labeling, barcoding, and stamping.

Perform follow-up and remedial processing on withdrawn library publications.

Provide professional reference and research services to patrons.

Assist in covering the reference desk and answering inquiries.

Use appropriate sources to determine library holdings and direct users to requested items.

Provide training on research resources and techniques.

Assist in the planning, development, and maintenance of library systems and websites.

Participate in library projects and planning committees.

Monitor and track reference and research service statistics.

Ensure accurate and timely responses to inquiries.

Assist in the promotion and marketing of library services.

Participate in library staff training and development.


REQUIRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE

Understanding of standard research and analysis methods, procedures, and techniques.

Ability to acquire additional information about the field and related areas.

Some familiarity with literature resources in the field.


REQUIRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE

Familiarity with handling legal materials


REQUIRED EDUCATION / CERTIFICATIONS

Bachelor s degree required. Master s degree preferred.

Preferably in a field such as Library Science, Information Science, English, History, or similar.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include the use of computer monitor screens up to 80% of the time.
