AHeinz57 Pet Rescue and Transport is a non-profit animal welfare organization. We care for homeless companion animals in De Soto, Adel, Van Meter, Dallas Center, Waukee, West Des Moines, and other communities when space allows. We are on a mission to responsibly care for as many companion animals as possible, as well as tackling the pet overpopulation problem in our community.

Role Description

This is a part-time (possibly full-time) on-site role located in De Soto, IA for a Veterinary Technician at AHeinz57 Pet Rescue and Transport. A Veterinary Technician plays a vital role in ensuring the comfort and health of our animals while they are being looked after by our organization. Day to day responsibilities include assisting with the administration of treatments, preparing animals for surgery, maintaining cleanliness of the medical facilities, and providing assistance to veterinarians performing medical procedures. As a member of AHeinz57 Pet Rescue and Transport, veterinary technicians will be tasked with coordinating animal care with volunteers at off-site locations.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in Veterinary Technology or equivalent experience
• State of Iowa Certified Veterinary Technician preferred
• Experience of at least 1-2 years in a Veterinary Technician role strongly preferred
• Demonstrated experience with administering medication and treatment to domestic animals
• Experience with monitoring and caring for animals both pre and post-surgery
• Familiarity with general veterinary terminology and procedures
• Solid understanding of animal behavior and comfort in handling domestic animals of all types
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
