Position Description:

Washtenaw Community College (WCC) is seeking Part time Adult Transitions Career Pathways ESL Instructors who are interested in making a long-term commitment to work with a small team of people in the development of a comprehensive college and career readiness program that offers students the chance to improve their language acquisition skills and supports them through successful transitions to postsecondary opportunities. Needs may become available prior to or during each semester. Upon successful submission of your application, resume, and transcripts, you will be considered for teaching opportunities on a per class basis. *We are currently hiring for a day-time instructor. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: Plan, organize, and provide instruction in English to adult language learners. Instruction must be consistent and coordinated with the instructional program so that adult learners meet and exceed learning targets and requirements outlined in the state and federal guidelines. Develops and delivers lesson plans utilizing a broad range of appropriate differentiated techniques and strategies addressing all aspects of communication that develop each student's ability to read, write, speak, and listen in content areas at levels that ensure learners meet or exceed learning targets, and allow English language learners to meaningfully access instructional programming. Administer academic and language assessments for the purpose of evaluating student's progress in meeting academic learning targets and progress in English language acquisition. Maintain complete and accurate records of student's progress and evidence of growth. Provide a nurturing, supportive, and positive learning environment with high expectations that encourage student responsibility and enhance motivation. Clearly communicates classroom routines and incorporate challenging instructional strategies. Create lesson plans and modify accordingly throughout the year. Integrate adult education competencies, goals, and objectives into lesson plans. Create projects designed to enhance lectures. Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities. Utilize various curriculum resources. Utilize curricula that reflect the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students served. Develop motivation techniques to keep participants engaged in the program. Grade student work and provide students with appropriate feedback to students to enhance student learning. Maintain attendance log (prior experience in Blackboard preferred). Read and stay abreast of current topics in adult education. Develop professional relationships with other community agencies and programs. Work with program administration to ensure initiatives are being met. Regular attendance is required for this position. Other duties as assigned.Work Environment: In-person or blended format at the Ypsilanti Township Community Center. Hours/Schedule: 12-week class, 8 hours a week (Monday-Thursday). Day and Evening positions available.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Bachelor's Degree in TESOL, Education, Reading, or a related field. Valid Michigan Teaching Certification. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to use techniques for individualized instruction. Virtual and online teaching skills. Must have reliable internet and computer due to the virtual format of the classes currently being taught.

Preferred Qualifications:

Additional Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree in TESOL, Education, Reading, or a related field Experience working in an educational environment with knowledge of adult learning. Experience teaching English to ESL students. Learning disabilities background. Experience in teaching at-risk and multi-cultural adult or high-school populations.
