Accountant


Under limited supervision, the accountant performs various accounting operational activities to support accounting function such as preparing reports and financial statements, reviewing general ledger entries for accuracy and compliance, and bi-weekly payroll submission. Applies accounting principles requiring a high degree of technical expertise to work and recommends changes to current accounting principles and procedures. Performs various semi-complex to complex accounting and payroll activities. Reports to the Financial Controller.


Performance Expectations


  • Reconciles and reviews general ledger, debtor s ledger, creditors ledger, fixed assets to ensure accuracy and compliance with established accounting principles and procedures.
  • Performs financial closing activities by ensuring timing of close and cutoffs are accurate and prepares.
  • month-end financial.
  • Checks fixed asset records and produces accounting statements that describe depreciation schedules.
  • Prepares the year-end audit as required by corporate policy and government regulations.
  • Analyzes and recommends changes in accounting systems and procedures to continuously improve efficiency and productivity.
  • Administers and monitors the maintenance of general ledgers and financial statements and prepares report packets monthly which provide management with accurate financial information for use in the decision-making process.
  • Reviews Edit/Change reports for debtors, creditors, and general ledger master files.
  • Reviews creditor payment runs.
  • Prepares and/or supervises bank reconciliations for all bank accounts and ensures proper spending and accuracy of the balance.
  • Responsible for the preparation and processing full cycle bi-weekly payroll including all deductions.
  • Calculate pay according to hours worked incorporating leaves and overtime.
  • Responding to employee inquiries regarding pay, benefits, vacation, and other payroll related issues
  • Collect and verify timekeeping information for all employees.
  • Calculate bonuses and commissions when appropriate.
  • Creating and checking entries and totals, balancing at regular intervals as required for bank reconciliation.
  • Working with the finance department for all payroll related inquiries and balancing the payroll for accounting purposes
  • Maintaining documentation of employee absences, bonuses, and personal time
  • Administering the employee Group Benefit Plan including new hire set-up, employee record maintenance and status change
  • Completes and performs other duties/tasks as may be assigned.
  • Performs any additional special projects as assigned by manager.


Credentials


  • Bachelor s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related discipline is required.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of related experience in Payroll and Accounting
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) completion from the American Payroll Association (APA) preferred.
  • Intermediate to Advanced skill in Microsoft Excel required.
  • Working knowledge of ADP systems considered an asset.
  • Experience in data collection, entry, and reporting with great attention to detail and confidentiality.
  • Manufacturing experience preferred.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to present financial information to management.
  • Possess drive and motivation to continuously meet deadlines and maintain current accounting knowledge.
  • IFRS experience is a plus.
