We are currently seeking a passionate Safety Manager who has the ability to interact positively with staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. Through the development of safety policies, staff training in safe work practices and the creation and implementation of Safe Work Plans, this position ensures a safe work environment for all JEI team members. This position also manages a safety team comprised of administrative and field personnel to help ensure compliance and drive a strong safety culture.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • In cooperation with Operations, develop health, safety and environmental (HSE) strategy in support of safety goals. Effectively communicate those goals and supporting programs to all levels of staff.
  • Develop effective plans designed to meet operational goals to achieve goal of zero injuries; design and implement effective metrics to track progress, proactively identify areas of concern and drive accountability.
  • Participate in customer safety meetings, perform job walks to assure safe and healthful conditions for workers.
  • Candidate will liaison with risk management entities to manage and mitigate claims to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Participate in audits to assure safe and healthful conditions for workers.
  • Perform root cause analysis for incidents and near miss events; prepares appropriate notices and corrective action plans for the abatement of any identified hazards.
  • Provide appropriate safety and health, accident prevention, and investigation training for employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Ensures that all safety databases (Avetta, ISNET, etc.), JHA's , incident investigations and regulatory reporting is completed by required deadlines, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and customer specific requirements.
  • Provides promotional materials and develops and administers recognition systems to promote safe and healthful work performance
  • Lead incident investigation process, including cause analysis and identification of corrective action plans; provide supervisor and management training on safety leadership and root cause analysis.
  • Demonstrate professional maturity, strong leadership skills and the ability to act as a change leader. Develop effective intercompany relationships; drive and promote zero-incident culture throughout the company.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Safety or related field, or the equivalent professional training, certifications and experience. CSP, OSHA 40 strongly preferred.
  • 5+ years of safety experience gained from working in a variety manufacturing or transportation operations; pulp and paper industry experience desirable. Knowledge and experience working with DOT regulations and compliance preferred.
  • Must possess a valid Driver's License and provide proof of liability coverage meeting company standards.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check to be able to work on Railroad, TWIC, MSHA sites
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills a must
  • Proficiency with Excel and Word, familiarity with Avetta and IsNet compliance platforms preferred.
Typical Work Conditions:
  • Overtime may be required as well as extended work hours in cases of emergent business need.
  • Travel 30% - primarily within PNW. CLC Card lodging and Per diem paid
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times, walk, climb, prolonged
  • Typical work is performed indoors in a climate-controlled environment; when visiting worksites, may be subject to outdoor environments in existing weather (hot, cold, inclement) conditions.
