Position Summary

This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) International & Diverse Student Policy Coordinator position with ASOSU at Oregon State University (OSU).

The International and Diverse Student Policy Coordinator serves on the ASOSU President's team in the ASOSU Executive Branch to advocate for international and diverse student communities and identify issues affecting student belonging. The International and Diverse Student Policy Coordinator will work closely with the Diversity Team, the Policy Team, and the campus services and programs, including the cultural centers, to understand the institutional inequities on our campus. The International and Diverse Student Policy Coordinator will work with campus administrators and the ASOSU and Faculty Senate to write and implement legislation which addresses policy inequities that affect Oregon State students.

Given the limited hours and timeline of ASOSU's advocacy, these responsibilities (including those provided below) may be amended or vary depending on the ongoing needs or emergent issues and/or circumstances.

Position Duties

  • Create and develop intersectional, collaborative programs and initiatives pertaining to international and diverse students;
  • Identify areas of improvement in campus policies pertaining to international and diverse students, and work with campus administrators and stakeholders to write and implement legislation addressing these areas.
  • Attend on-campus programs and events that are relevant to international and diverse students;
  • Communicate with the campus services and programs to identify policy needs and priorities, including, but not limited to:
  • Asian and Pacific Cultural Center,
    • Centro Cultural Cesar Chevez,
    • Ettihad Cultural Center,
    • Lonnie B. Harris Black Cultural Center,
    • Native American Longhouse Ina Haws,
    • Pride Center,
    • SOL,
    • Women and Gender Resource Center,
    • AYA,
    • Nia Black Scholar and munk-skukum Living-Leaming Communities,
    • Office of Institutional Diversity,
    • And any campus programs or partners pertaining to international and diverse student communities.
  • Provide resources for international and diverse students to interact with the student government and learn more about campus services;
  • Communicate with relevant campus departments, organizations, and community stakeholders on issues pertaining to international and diverse students, as well as student parents, and individuals with respect to other considerations reflecting the diverse educational circumstances of the student body;
  • Work with the ASOSU Policy Director and Local and Legislative Policy Coordinator on issues and policies concerning international and diverse students in higher education;
  • Advocate to create a safe, open, and inclusive environment for international and diverse students;
  • Work with leadership to be available, and/or connect community members with ASOSU resources, through events related to international and diverse student affairs;
  • Facilitate the gathering of information, tracking legislation, and conducting research on issues and policies concerning international and diverse student issues;
  • Identify and develop areas of involvement in international and diverse student policy in which the ASOSU Executive Branch should engage itself.
  • Attend regular Policy Team and Diversity Team and all-executive staff meetings
  • Provide a report to the ASOSU Congress at least once per term;
  • Assist the Chief of Staff by providing relevant input during expenditure processes;
  • Meet with the ASOSU Advisor biweekly for one-on-one meetings;
  • Meet regularly with the ASOSU President and Vice President;
  • Send the Chief of Staff a schedule of working hours at the beginning of each academic term.
  • Serve and work on additional committees and campaigns, such as the Voter Registration Drive and ASOSU Elections, at the direction of the ASOSU President;
  • Other duties as assigned by the ASOSU President and Vice President.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*


*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered "full-time" by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Additional Required Qualifications
  • ASOSU Constitution eligibility requirements:
    • Be currently admitted to the university.
    • Be eligible for student employment with the university except for requirements regarding credit hours or eligibility for enrollment in the United States.
    • Have been previously enrolled in at least one prior OSU or college-level credit, or be enrolled in first term at Oregon State University
  • Must be available for training for the week of September 16th, 2024.
  • Undergraduate students shall have earned at least six credits hours in their most recently completed term, be currently registered for at least six credit hours, not be on conduct probation, and have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.00
  • Graduate students shall have earned at least five hours of credit in their most recently completed term, be currently registered for at least five hours, not be on conduct probation, and have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.00.
  • A commitment to promoting and advancing diversity and creating an atmosphere of inclusion;
  • Communication skills in areas including but not limited to interpersonal, public speaking, digital, verbal, and written communications;
  • Ability to manage time and work accurately with interruptions to meet a deadline;
  • Work well under pressure, exercising flexibility, initiative, good judgment, and discretion
  • Willingness to be adaptable, to accept changes and try new things;
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team.


Preferred (Special) Qualifications
  • Experience working with organizations focusing on student advocacy, campus involvement, diversity and inclusion, or other related areas;
  • Experience in leading and directing individuals.
  • Experience with project management and coordinating teams.
