This classification is a safety-sensitive position as defined by the United States Department of Transportation drug and alcohol testing regulations and/or the Oklahoma Standards for Workplace Drug and Alcohol Testing Act. As a safety-sensitive classification, you will be subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random testing. Marijuana is one of the substances included in the drug panel screening. Possession of a medical marijuana certification will not excuse you from the testing process, or the consequences of testing positive for marijuana.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION: Under general supervision, is responsible for performing manual and semi skilled tasks; operation and maintenance of light equipment as assigned. Work varies little requiring individual judgment within prescribed standards and procedures.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Work is frequently performed in undesirable physical conditions of pollution, heat, cold, dampness, and a high noise level;
  • Physical demands involve lifting up to 75#'s (greater with assistance), sitting, crawling, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, and climbing and may be exposed to hazards and chemicals;
  • Must possess a valid Oklahoma Class A CDL within six months of employment.

MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY AND PERFORMANCE

  • Performs manual and semi-skilled work in the operation, repair, and maintenance of streets and rights-of-way;
  • Operates and maintains light equipment as assigned, including bobcats, pickup trucks, dump trucks, tractors, mowers, trucks with specialized equipment such as truck mounted snow plows, sanders, spreaders, and crack and sealer equipment;
  • May operate street sweeper as assigned; operates other self-propelled equipment of similar size and complexity;
  • May haul tree branches and remove debris and other material from alleys and streets as deemed necessary;
  • Performs physical labor tasks, shovels, loads, and hauls gravel, repairs streets, and fencing;
  • Checks tires, oil, lubricant, water, air filters, lights, fuel, and makes minor repairs to equipment operated; maintains records of mileage, fuel and oil consumption, and inventory of vehicle equipment and maintenance items;
  • Performs other duties as may be required and deemed necessary.
  • Prepares minimal records of own activities;
  • Work is frequently performed in undesirable physical conditions of pollution, heat, cold, noise, and dampness; may be exposed to hazards and chemicals;
  • Contacts with others is incidental to the performance of duties requiring common courtesy and relaying of information; work performed requires care and use of proper safety equipment and following established safety procedures to prevent injury.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:

  • Graduation from high school or its equivalent; PLUS
  • One year of demonstrated work experience; Experience in the operation of equipment and road construction helpful.
  • Must possess Confined Space Entry Certification;
  • Must possess a valid Oklahoma Class A CDL within six months of employment and maintain a status of insurability.

EXAMPLES OF PERFORMANCE CRITERIA AND EXPECTATIONS

  • Operates and maintains light equipment as related to street maintenance and snow removal as assigned;
  • Performs routine maintenance and repairs on assigned equipment;
  • May haul tree branches and removes debris and other material from alleys and streets as deemed necessary;
  • Performs physical labor tasks, shovels, loads, and hauls gravel, repairs streets, and fencing;
  • Sets work zones, works special events (parades), works storms, floods, snow, ice, and fires as directed;
  • Follows all applicable safety procedures, uses proper safety equipment, and operates assigned equipment in a safe manner;
  • May operate other equipment, including street sweeper;
  • May perform work in other departments as needed; and
  • Performs such other duties as may be assigned in the day to day operations of the City.
