Agricultural Laborer


Job Details

Under the supervision of the Farm Manager, the incumbent performs agricultural labor duties and skilled tasks as related to farming. Assists in preparing soil, planting, maintaining and harvesting crops (including maple syrup) assisting with heavy lifting, overall grounds keeping miscellaneous odd jobs in the installation and year-round maintenance as assigned. Performs maintenance and minor servicing, of agricultural equipment. Completes construction and maintenance of fencing. Maintenance of grounds in all areas as assigned. Power washes and disinfects all equipment as assigned. Operates Farm Stand and assists with Farm Stand tasks as assigned. May be transferred into any division within the Public Works Department as needed or assigned. Must maintain a valid driver's license; must provide a yearly DMV Certified Driving History. High school diploma or GED and two years' experience in agricultural/farming and/or gardening. Math test required. Must be able to safely use farm, hand tools and power tools such as chain saws, snow blowers, wood chippers, etc. as well as other small equipment such as, but not limited to, Bobcat, Kubota, and Steiner. Must be able to safely operate standard-shift pickup trucks to plow snow and haul materials to and from work sites and be able to haul a trailer using side-view mirrors. Knowledge of plant materials and diseases, including installation and maintenance techniques is helpful. Mandatory 24 hour on-call snow removal duty from November 1 to April 30.
