Job Summary:

CNPC USA is actively seeking innovative, best-in-class experts to join our growing team. This is a unique opportunity for a strong Sr. Research Scientist with expertise in downhole fluids. The Sr. Research Scientist applies complex principles, theories, and concepts to develop new and improved downhole fluids and incorporates working knowledge of other related disciplines to provide solutions to a wide range of challenging problems. The Sr. Research Scientist also acts as a technical lead or consultant on various projects, leads the development of intellectual property and exhibits creativity, foresight and mature judgment in conducting research programs/projects.

The Sr. Research Scientist reports directly to R&D Manager of Fracturing Fluids.

Responsibilities:

  • Works without technical supervision; supervision and guidance relate largely to overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters; consults with supervisor concerning unusual problems and developments.
  • Carries out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved research or engineering techniques and procedures. Work is expected to result in the development of new or refined materials, processes, products, and/or scientific methods and approaches.
  • Plans, develops, coordinates, and directs projects; may require the use of sophisticated project planning techniques.
  • Identifies technical approach for solving problems and meeting customer needs; incorporates economic, HSE and logistical factors into solutions.
  • Contributions to reports and publications; author/co-author on papers, proposals, presentations, and reports.
  • Interacts in a collaborative manner with other team members to accomplish organizational goals.
  • Creates, monitors, and implements effective plans; takes lead for scoping tasks/projects.
  • Makes significant contributions to technical proposal preparation and presentations. Contributes to positive co-worker/customer relationships through efficient interaction on current projects.
  • Demonstrate strong commitment to maintain high quality occupational health, safety, & working environment based on HSE rules and regulations.
  • Conducts all business activities in agreement with CNPC USA core values.
  • Performs other projects and/or duties as assigned.

Key Skills:
  • Knowledgeable in current synthetic methods of oilfield water-soluble polymers and surfactants.
  • Knowledgeable in fracturing fluids, acidizing fluids, and enhanced oil recovery fluids.
  • Experience with evaluation and application of oilfield water-soluble polymers and surfactants.
  • Effective communication skills; requires both interpersonal and technical communication skills.
  • Effective writing and presentation ability.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports, patent disclosures and technical publications.
  • Ability to effectively lead research and development projects.
  • Demonstrate commitment to maintain high quality occupational health, safety & working environment based on HSE rules and regulations.

Qualifications:

PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field, with five or more years of experience in oilfield chemicals R&D.

Experience in synthesis and evaluation of oilfield polymer and surfactants is strongly preferred.

Working knowledge of oilfield pressure pumping processes is strongly preferred.

Legally authorized to work in the United States of America.

Travel:

Some international and domestic travel is expected. Local travel between other CNPC USA locations and testing facilities is required.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position routinely supervises laboratory technicians.
