Position Title: Chief Nursing Officer (CNO)

Position Overview: The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) is a key member of the executive leadership team responsible for providing strategic direction and leadership for all activities within the organization. The CNO plays a crucial role in implementing organizational goals, policies and initiatives that promote the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care while promoting a positive work environment in the following ways:

Leadership: Develop and implement strategic plans and initiatives to advance nursing practice, improve patient outcomes, and align nursing services with organizational goals and values

Quality: Oversee the development and implementation of evidence-based practices and standards to ensure the delivery of safe, effective, and high-quality patient care. Collaborate with other members of the executive team to monitor and improve clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction.

Management: Provide leadership and direction for hospital operations, including staffing, resource allocation, budgeting, and performance management. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and accreditation standards.

Development: Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development among nursing staff. Support the development and implementation of education and training programs to enhance nursing competency and promote career advancement.

Collaboration: Collaborate with other healthcare professionals and departments to coordinate patient care, optimize clinical workflows, and promote interdisciplinary teamwork. Serve as a liaison between nursing staff and other members of the executive leadership team.

Improvement/Risk Management: Lead quality improvement initiatives and risk management activities to identify areas for improvement and mitigate risks related to nursing practice. Monitor key performance indicators and outcomes data to drive continuous improvement efforts.

Advocacy: Represent the organization in professional forums, community events, and advocacy efforts to promote and enhance the organization's reputation as a community hospital/healthcare resource.


Key Responsibilities:

Nursing Requirements- 1shift/month. Ability to provide patient care to all ages in a safe and an efficient, cost-effective manner. Maintain licensure, clinical skills and competencies

Supervision- Supervise and oversee hospital staff and other support personnel.

Human Resources- Assist the Facility Administrator, when needed, for all HR documents and files. Responsible for interviewing, hiring, corrective action, and termination of clinical employees.

Scheduling- Maintains schedules of clinical staff, making changes to meet the needs of the Department.

Supplies/Medications- Maintains a par level for supplies and medications. Orders or delegates the task of ordering supplies and medications while maintaining cost-effective measures. Set up and maintain contract vendors.

Marketing- Markets services of the hospital through community services and direct physician contact.

Patient Satisfaction- Maintains a high level of patient satisfaction. Investigates and resolves patient complaints or directs complaints to medical director if needed.

Communication - Communicates with patients, families, physicians, and other personnel in a courteous and professional manner.

Cleanliness - Maintains a clean working environment.

Staff Development & Education -The CNO will lead staff meetings and performance improvement activities. Orients new clinical staff and assures that training, education and competencies of staff are met. Acts as a clinical resource for all staff.

Organizational Support Develops and follows policies and procedures. Supports organization s goals and values. Displays willingness to make decisions, exhibits sound and accurate judgment in the best interest of the organization. Oversee local/state regulations specific to the hospital.

Other - Performs other duties, tasks and/or projects as assigned by Medical Director


Working Conditions:

Physical Demands- ability to lift 50 lbs, stand and walk frequently throughout the day

Averse/Hazardous Conditions- potential injury from physical efforts and chemical irritants. Potential exposure to bodily fluids and infectious disease.

Qualifications:

  • Current RN or ARNP license with at least a BSN degree or higher.
  • Current BLS, ACLS, PALS or ENPC
  • TNCC & CEN preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years full-time RN experience in the hospital setting (preferably emergency services).
  • Minimum of 2 years of leadership experience in nursing administration, with demonstrated success in managing operations and driving clinical excellence.
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and best practices.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate staff and foster a collaborative work environment.
  • Strategic thinker with a track record of developing and implementing innovative solutions to complex healthcare challenges.
  • Commitment to professional development, lifelong learning, and staying abreast of emerging trends and advancements in healthcare delivery.
