Description

Job Summary: This position is responsible for performing skilled labor in citywide buildings and
remodeling projects and for performing skilled repairs, maintenance, and serving a variety of
equipment, and buildings.

Major Duties:

  • Performs skilled carpentry work in building and remodeling projects, including but not limitedto framing, siding, cornice, interior trim.
  • Performs skilled labor in concreate, brick, and stonework projects.
  • Performs skilled labor in electrical, HVAC, and plumbing projects.
  • Performs skilled labor in drywall and painting projects.
  • Performs skilled labor in all other areas of building and remodeling projects.
  • Preforms building maintenance duties that include but are not limited to: replacing light bulbs,
  • replacing fixture ballasts, replacing HVAC filters, repairing structural components, minor roofing repairs, flooring repairs.
  • Duties are not limited to building repair, there will be a wide variety of tasks and responsibilities that may include grounds maintenance and repair, building maintenance and repair, equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Writing daily reports, keeping detailed logs of work performed, maintaining and documenting inventory flow count.
  • Inputting data into computer programs pertaining to department operations.


Knowledge and Skill Required by the Position:
  • Ability to read and follow construction blueprints.
  • The ability to preform skilled labor in all aspects of building construction.
  • The ability to read, interpret, and apply ICC, NEC, IMC, and IPC codes.
  • Knowledge of the tools, equipment and technology used in the building of repair and maintenance of buildings, and related equipment.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the construction trade.
  • Skill in the use and care of tools, equipment, and materials of the construction trade.
  • Skill in repairing defects in a wide variety of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment.
  • Skill in Microsoft Excel and the ability to learn proficiently in different programs the department uses.
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical, electrical, and electronic failures.
  • Ability to adapt successfully to the wide range of equipment.
  • Ability to safely operate gas and ARC welding equipment to fabricate parts or mounting equipment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, co-workers, and other city employees.


Work Environment: Most work is performed in the field which may involve hazardous conditions. Thereare city owned buildings that will require travel to be maintained and repaired. The work involvesconsiderable physical activity with exposure to safety hazards normally associated with general buildingand construction repair.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Three (3) years of Construction and Building maintenance experience.
  • Vocational coursework in related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
  • Must have a valid Georgia Drivers' license
