Cranbrook Upper School is seeking a Library Assistant. This position provides clerical and paraprofessional support in the School Libraries. This is a full-time School Session position from mid-August to mid-June.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Facility Management

  • Manages circulation of collection including day-to-day check in and out of materials and shelving of materials
  • Assists in the day-to-day operation of the library, including supervision of students and maintenance of cleanliness and order in the physical space
  • Assists with library correspondence including over-due notices to faculty, staff, and students; letters and billing of students' accounts
  • Assists with inventory, prepares reports of missing materials
  • Assists with collection assessment and weeding of materials
  • Assists with maintenance of schedule for library facilities, class and outside use
  • Maintains and updates Library Administration Manual
  • Maintains facility during librarian's absence
Program Support
  • Assists in maintaining new orders for new and replacement materials as well as processing of materials into the collection
  • Works with cataloger to maintain collection records
  • Creates monthly list of new acquisitions for faculty and student use
  • Creation of reference documentation/how-to's/marketing materials as needed
  • Gives input for long-range planning of program and facility management
  • Assists with student and faculty orientation and library skills classes (students and faculty in library use)
  • Assists with preparing bibliographies and in research projects
  • Skilled in research searching skills and strategies
  • Exhibits a working knowledge of all subscription research databases available to students
  • Attends staff meetings
Technology Support
  • Assists in managing and maintaining computer support: serves as a liaison between library team and IT personnel and Schools' Technology Department
  • Assists students and faculty in troubleshooting internet connection issues, campus printing and Microsoft365 programs when using personal devices
  • Helps maintain designated library pages using LibGuides and Sirsi Enterprise
Equipment
  • Has a working knowledge of all audiovisual, computer and computer related equipment
  • Comfortable with a variety of digital devices and operating systems including Android, Mac OS X, and Windows
  • Assists with set-up of AV equipment including speakers and microphones
  • Maintains circulation of audio-visual equipment and loaner laptops for students
  • Maintains records, supplies, and service for library copy machine, computers and printers
Requirements:
  • A High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Additional training and academic library or school library experience preferred, but not essential.
  • Excellent organizational and oral/written communication skills are required. This position must work effectively with other library staff members as well as faculty and teenage students.
  • Strong customer service attitude is essential.
  • Must be proficient with library circulation systems (Horizon), skilled with Microsoft Office programs, and experienced with multiple internet browsers.
  • Familiarity with LibGuides, Microsoft Teams, and the Dewey Decimal System is ideal.
