**POSITION:** Recreation Assistant Fitness / NF-0189-02 **SALARY RANGE:** $12.00 14.00/PH

**EMPLOYMENT CATEGORY:** Flexible **(May be scheduled to work 40 hours weekly. May be required to work weekends, holidays, and evening/rotating shifts. Group benefits not included.)**

**DUTIES****:** Incumbent serves as a visible monitor in the fitness center observing patron equipment use with the purpose of ensuring a safe and efficient environment. Responsible for circulating and making oneself visible in the fitness center to ensure customer interaction. Answers telephone inquiries related to fitness and disseminating information to appropriate parties. Answer patron questions within the scope of official training/certification and referring other questions to the appropriate individual(s). Perform daily routine inspection of equipment, performing simple repairs when possible and referring complex or extensive equipment concerns to appropriate parties. Perform daily routine cleaning of all fitness equipment ensuring cleanliness and in proper working order. Perform basic first aid in the event of an accident. Arrange appointments and administer Youth Orientation program for the purpose of training/qualifying adolescents to use fitness facilities. Participates in brainstorming sessions to develop programs, events and classes for a well-rounded physical fitness program. May assist in the setting up of related equipment and participate in the operation of recreational/sporting events as requested. Keep up-to-date on the latest fitness trends, and developments. Answers questions regarding programs offered through the Fitness Center and/or other MWR facilities/services available to the customer. Recommends program changes and variations as necessary to the Fitness Coordinator. Continuously evaluates the participation and interest level of fitness classes and programs from the standpoint of participant responses, resources, unforeseen developments, and program objectives. Performs other duties as assigned.

***QUALIFICATIONS:*** *Incumbent must hold a current CPR certification and must have completed Navy Basic Fitness Training. Incumbent must also already have or obtain within 3 months, the Star Service Customer Care course and the MWR Cash Handling Course.*

**PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORKING CONDITIONS****:** Work usually is indoors and may or may not be air conditioned or heated. Constant standing, walking, bending, stooping and lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Care must be exercised in utilizing correct lifting techniques at all times.

**NOTE:** **As a condition of employment, selectee(s) will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer within the first 60 days of employment.
