Description

POSITION SUMMARY

Set up and operate department equipment such as OD and ID grinders; CNC and/or manually operated. Operate grinders to perform a series of machining operations such turning, boring, threading, facing, grinding, drilling and tapping on production materials.

Work from complex blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications, job orders, tooling instructions and standard charts to obtain such specifications as dimensions, tolerances, and tooling instructions. Make required adjustments to machinery to compensate for material tooling, machine or program conditions. Troubleshoot and resolve various types of operating difficulties, recommend corrective action on process failures within the department. Determine correct grinding wheel to use to achieve required finish; be able to measure finish using micrometers and other associated tools; be able to hold tight tolerances; be able to maintain proper and accurate records, including inspection reports.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Follows all environmental health and safety (EHS) policies, practices, protocols, and regulations. Proactively addresses any potential EHS issues and reports any unsafe conditions. Sets a positive example regarding EHS and a safety-first culture.

Maintains a clean and orderly (6S) work area and equipment to ensure a safe and productive work environment and quality products.

Set up and operate grinding equipment

Operate hand tools as needed in a safe and efficient manner

May need to operate overhead crane, forklift, and/or hand trucks as necessary

Choose correct tools to achieve desired product finish, based on material and other specifications

Read and understand drawings, and be able to hold tolerances required

General Responsibilities:

Performs other responsibilities as assigned and/or as needed to support company objectives.

Meets on-site attendance requirements.

Pursues continuous improvement by suggesting, implementing, and supporting solutions/strategies to increase productivity, reduce scrap, and improve the operation, and decrease downtime; participates in continuous improvement activities and projects, including root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.

Requirements

Work Experience:

1 - 3 years' experience running automated grinding equipment (CNC and/or manual)

Education and Skills:

High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent

Ability to read, understand and interpret blueprints, schematics, etc.

Ability to properly use micrometers and other measuring devices to determine finish and tolerances

Ability to properly use a tape measure

Familiarity with grinding stones, grinding wheels, grinding tapes; their applications and uses; and other tools associated with grinding equipment and machine work

Familiarity with required hand tools; their applications and uses; and safe handling requirements

Lifting requirements: Up to 50 lbs.

Push/Pull requirements: up to 25% of the workday

Standing/sitting requirements: standing up to 100% of the workday

Bending/squatting requirements: up to 25% of the workday

Use of steps/ladders: no ladder usage; stepping (platform): periodic up to 20% of the workday

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to perform the following physical demands with or without accommodation:

Position may require person to be on their feet to 8-10 hours standing or walking in a heavy manufacturing environment, constantly performing regularly scheduled maintenance duties

Ability to lift objects weighing more than 50 pounds infrequently

Ability to safely operate forklift, overhead cranes, and other material handling equipment

Ability to see and hear in order to perform the functions of this position

Ability to speak, write and understand English fluently
