About the Role:

Job Summary

Plans, implements, and evaluates American Heart Association (AHA) programs related to Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). Functions as the American Heart Association Training Site Coordinator providing leadership to the NGHS AHA Training Center, in addition will, function as a facilitator, educator, and clinical resource to employees and community members. Assists with orientation of new staff. Plans for and coordinates space, equipment, educators, and supplies for classes and maintains records of classes according to AHA and organizational guidelines. Serves as a professional clinical resource for internal and external customers. Incorporates critical thinking skills, evidence-based practice, and quality/safety into all educational activities. This position will also provide simulation education as needed for AHA courses or other learning needs identified in the organization. Critical thinking skills, clinical decision-making ability, and evidence-based practice knowledge are required. Requires operation of and troubleshooting of patient simulators. Collaboratively writes scenarios and program simulators for realistic training opportunities. This position will also work with other credentialing programs such as ATLS, ALSO, FCCS to coordinate space, equipment, and clinical resources.



Minimum Job Qualifications

  • Licensure or other certifications: Licensed to practice as an RN in Georgia. Professional certification in either a clinical or education specialty within five years. American Heart Association ACLS/BLS Instructor in good standing and affiliated with a current training center

  • Educational Requirements: Bachelors Degree in Nursing.

  • Minimum Experience: At least five years of clinical experience. At least two years experience teaching American Heart Association courses. At least one year as an AHA lead instructor and /or one year experience in teaching.

  • Other: Instructor in one or more BLS, ACLS, PALS.

  • Knowledge and application of adult learning principles related to current patient assessment and direct care delivery. Ability to communicate in respectful, constructive, consistent, and professional manner while assessing learner performance for accuracy and proficiency.

  • Demonstrate proficiency with various office and clinical computer systems, i.e., Microsoft office, online learning system, electronic documentation system, and simulation equipment, etc.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Meet AHA training center coordinator position requirements and coordinate the instruction of NGHS clinical staff and non clinical staff in AHA approved courses to include Heartsaver/BLS/ACLS/PALS and others as requested by clinical staff or organizational leadership.

  • Assess participant performance of AHA competencies accurately, consistently, and honestly, providing remediation suggestions/plans as necessary.

  • Facilitate group or individual learning activities via interactive presentations, video vignettes, demonstrations, simulations, lectures, or supervised direct patient care, to include assessment and evaluations for each.

  • Serves as a liaison to the American Heart Association (AHA) and maintains a networking relationship with other TC s

  • Coordinate and participate in the Training Center s (TC) initial and subsequent site reviews and ensures compliance with AHA procedures to resolve complaints or problems related to the TC or courses sponsored by the TC.

  • May assist in the development and delivery of scenarios for simulation instruction.

  • Maintain training records according to AHA and Clinical Education Department process and standards.

  • Maintain current knowledge of simulation standards and provide updates to the NGHS training network with current information on AHA courses, science guidelines, policies, and procedures.

  • Assist with the development and presentation of educational activities via development of goals, objectives, lesson plans, resource materials. and assessments utilizing adult learning principles and accepted professional standards.

  • Relieve/assist other AHA instructors and simulation staff and/or administrative assistant as requested and as responsibilities allow.

  • Participate in departmental and organizational performance improvement or accreditation activities as needed.

  • Participates in the coordination of resources within NGHS and the community to organize and coordinate educational programs.

  • Manages AHA instructors, AHA training sites, and AHA course rosters.

  • Demonstrate effective project management, critical thinking skills, productivity, and clinical expertise while functioning both independently and as a member of a team.

  • Maintains appropriate records as required to be a training center with the AHA, including records of all AHA instructors affiliated with the EEC by using the AHA instructor network and submits data/reports to supervisor as requested.
