ELECTRICIAN (SURFACE MINE)-(Evening Shift)

JOB SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Perform electrical (primarily), mechanical and hydraulic inspections, testing, maintenance and repair work associated with a surface mine mining with electrically powered equipment. Perform scheduled, unscheduled and preventative maintenance on assigned surface mine equipment/installations by using numerous types of hand tools, precision measuring instruments, diagnostic equipment (voltmeters, ammeters, etc.) and machine tools to replace parts and components, make repairs, conduct rebuilds, dismantle and reassemble equipment and components as necessary.
  • Read and interpret blue prints and wiring diagrams and follow maintenance manuals and parts books to set up and perform tasks.
  • May be required to document all or certain work activities and related information.
  • May be required to operate certain surface mine equipment to diagnose problems, position it for repairs to be made, test operate after making repairs.
  • Operate vehicle (usually pickup) using hand and foot controls to travel at mine site.
  • Conduct pre-operation visual, physical and operational examination (including fluid level checks) of vehicle, and complete written form of the results.
  • Maintain two-way radio communication with other personnel.
  • Conduct all work activities in conformity with federal laws, state laws and company policies, procedures, rules and regulations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: The employee must be able to follow specific instructions while maintaining established standards of performance and show consistent energy and physical dexterity for the satisfactory completion of the essential tasks as summarized and defined. The employee must exhibit acceptable interpersonal skills and the continuous ability to work in a team oriented atmosphere.

NOTE: Employees may be required to perform most if not all production jobs on a regular rotating basis. Therefore, all production jobs are considered essential.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: Those employees operating equipment regularly operate it while sitting in a pressurized, air conditioned, heated cab compartment. Typically, they operate the equipment using hand and usually foot controls, including using a two-way radio for communication with fellow operators and others.

Certain work associated with repairs to mobile surface mine equipment is often heavy labor.
