Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator


Job Details

The EHS Coordinator will, as directed by the EHS Manager, work to implement, sustain and improve the Environmental Health and Safety management systems necessary to ensure compliance with federal, state and local EHS requirements affecting the Chicago, IL facilities. Additionally, this individual will provide local safety guidance and support to the Associate Director of Operations.



Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Execute improvements to existing site safety and environmental programs under the direction of the EHS Manager.
  • Work closely with the site s Associate Director of Operations.
  • Complete routine inspections, reports and training programs and maintain required records.
  • Conduct hazard assessments, job safety analyses and accident investigations.
  • Coordinate environmental and safety-related corrective and preventive actions.
  • Build trust and rapport with site personnel and provide a high level of service to stakeholders.
  • Be an advocate for and a contributor to a culture of safety.
  • Develop localized procedures for site-specific safety requirements.
  • Assemble and lead an employee safety committee.
  • Monitor and report local performance metrics to the EHS Manager.
  • Coordinate employee exposure monitoring and medical surveillance testing.
  • Ability to travel among several sites within the city of Chicago, IL and, occasionally, to the corporate headquarters in Wauconda, IL.


Required Qualifications:

  • HS Diploma required. Bachelor s degree preferred.
  • 2 years experience in a manufacturing-related setting. Food ingredient manufacturing preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to enable the development and execution of cost-effective solutions.
  • Ability to coach and partner with others. Strong teamwork skills, both as a leader and as a member.
  • Creativity to enable the use of tools, resources, programs, processes and solutions.
  • Presentation skills to enable effective training and communication to all levels of the organization.
  • Very strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint); proficient in navigating OSHA, EPA and other key regulations.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to wear respiratory protection equipment.
