Job Details

Church of the Resurrection located Ellicott City, Maryland, is seeking candidates for an Accountant. As an Accountant for the church, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and overseeing the day-to-day financial transactions of the church. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality. 3-4 days per week.

Essential Functions

  • Financial Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records using QuickBooks Online accounting software.
  • Accounts Payable and Receivable: Oversee routine accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions. Prepare documentation for shared expenses with Resurrection St. Paul School and St. Paul Church and record related journal entries.
  • Bank Reconciliation: Perform monthly bank reconciliations on all cash and investment accounts to ensure that all transactions are accounted for and reconcile any discrepancies between bank statements and financial records.
  • Budget Management: Develop and monitor the church's operating budget. Provide reports to committees/ departments as needed and assist with their budget preparation.
  • Payroll: Calculate wages for church staff. Ensure compliance with all relevant employment laws and regulations.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare quarterly and annual financial reports for the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Prepare the agenda and lead monthly Finance Council meetings by presenting financial information in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Compliance and Taxation: Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, including tax laws and reporting requirements for nonprofit organizations.
  • Audit Preparation: Assist in the preparation for annual audits by providing necessary documentation and support to auditors.
  • Financial Planning and Analysis: Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support strategic decision-making by the Finance Council. Identify opportunities for cost savings or revenue generation.
  • Confidentiality: Maintain strict confidentiality of all financial information and church records.


Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting.
  • 5 or more years of experience in accounting.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
