Summary
- The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Emergency Room (ER) is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to patients in emergent and critical situations.
- They assess patients, administer treatments and medications, coordinate care with other healthcare professionals, and ensure timely and effective responses to medical emergencies.
- The ER nurse must possess strong clinical skills, critical thinking abilities, and the ability to remain calm and focused on high-pressure situations.
Responsibilities
- Asses patients upon arrival at the emergency department, including triaging patients based on the severity of their condition.
- Perform initial and ongoing physical assessments, including vital signs monitoring, neurological assessments, and pain assessments.
- Administer medications and treatments as ordered by physicians, ensuring accuracy and adherence to established protocols.
- Monitor patients for changes in condition and intervene promptly to address any complications or deterioration.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare team members to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Provide patient and family education regarding treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions.
- Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
- Respond to medical emergencies within the facility, including cardiac arrests, traumas, and other life-threatening events.
Requirements
- BLS
- ACLS
- TNCC
- ENPC or PALS
- NIHSS from AHA
- RN license in MN
