Litigation Paralegal - Aviation


Job Details

Our client is seeking a temp candidate to join the Firm as a paralegal covering aviation liability for about 3 months in its Washington D.C. office. This temp candidate will cover for an employee who will be out of the office for 3 months.


Washington D.C. Office is located at 1775 Pennsylvania Avenue NW #400, Washington, DC 20006.



Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Drafting and sending assorted pleadings and documents to counsel, courts and clients as needed, such as routine correspondence, deposition notices, briefs, motions, orders, petitions, and discovery;
  • Filing and service of all documents;
  • Managing scheduling order deadlines for multiple cases filed in various jurisdictions, both state and federal and ensure calendar is accurately maintained;
  • Maintain a very busy caseload;
  • Draft, update and maintain spreadsheets to track status of cases;
  • Assisting in document review, organization and production and prepare privilege logs;
  • Assisting with depositions, exhibit preparation and digesting deposition transcripts;
  • General case maintenance (organization of files such as correspondence, pleadings, discovery, etc.);
  • Reviewing court dockets and electronic filing notifications; Assist counsel with all phases of litigation (pre-trial, trial and post-trial).


Required Qualifications

  • Experience with litigation process, medical record review and personal injury type cases;
  • Excellent written and communication skills;
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Familiarity with Court websites and efiling procedures;
  • Well-developed organization and time management skills
  • Ability to handle highly sensitive information;
  • Ability to gracefully work under pressure in a fast-paced environment;
  • Flexibility and adapts well to changes in workload;
  • Strong academic credentials;
  • Willing and able to learn new software;
  • Intellectual curiosity.


We are currently operating on a hybrid schedule of 3 days a week in the office with the understanding that additional in-office work may be required from time to time.


  • The candidate s manager would be located in Maine with the supervisor above him based in Miami. The candidate s supervisor has been with the Firm for 6 years.
  • There are no other paralegals based in Washington D.C. but there are two legal assistants.
  • Training will be provided by the manager primarily but also might be offered by a paralegal before their leave.
  • The candidate should expect to report to the office five days each week and that remote working will be offered in certain situations.


Candidate:

  • hiring manager needs the candidate to have paralegal experience.
  • skills are experience with litigation, deposition, pleadings drafting, management of discovery, and trial support.
  • placement will be a minimum of three months, but flexibility to work for possibly six months.
  • placement is not currently temp-to-hire.
  • Weekly schedule will be Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM 5:00 PM (EST) with a one-hour lunch, 35 hours per week.
  • compensation is $40/hour
  • transit to the office is most common but there is parking in the basement of the building.
