JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective

The Packaging Buyer is responsible for negotiating pricing, contract terms, lead times, and other associated details for all primary & secondary packaging and related equipment and services.

This is not a remote position, it is based in our Cartersville, GA facility.

The Packaging Buyer establishes suppliers for materials and services, including alternate suppliers, of current and new items. This Buyer must maintain competitive total cost while ensuring continued quality and service levels. The Buyer will contribute to the US Sourcing Team by successfully meeting and exceeding global company performance objectives.


Essential Functions

  1. Negotiates pricing, terms, lead times, etc. for materials and services and other assets as assigned by the Team-Lead Sourcing.
  2. Negotiates contracts and agreements with suppliers as appropriate, ensuring best quality, service, and lowest total cost.
  3. Working closely with Production Planning, ensures that adequate inventories are maintained to ensure that no stockouts occur due to lack of materials.
  4. Enters executed and authorized contracts and cost updates into SAP and other designated systems.
  5. Supports global initiatives relevant to the packaging spend category.
  6. Tracks vendor delivery and quality performance for vendor evaluation.
  7. Meets with vendors to assess quality, capabilities, and reliability of the suppliers and maintains vendor relationships. Conducts vendor audits in support of Quality.
  8. Works with relevant internal stakeholders to determine needs and opportunities.
  9. Places purchase orders with vendors for raw materials and packaging as required.
  10. Supports the Operations team with effective purchasing support and follow up of deliveries.
  11. Manages GRAs (Return Goods Authorizations) and SAP Quality notifications as necessary.
  12. Contacts vendors concerning open purchases and/or information pertinent to operations.
  13. Ensures that contracts are executed with prior legal review and executive approval.
  14. Obtains competitive pricing and selects appropriate vendors consistent with accepted buying practices and in conjunction with applicable Global initiatives.
  15. Keeps abreast of market conditions and advises management of current trends. Recommends strategic purchasing activities when dictated by market trends.
  16. Arranges shipment logistics with vendors and internal stakeholders to achieve the best arrival date and delivered pricing.
  17. Sources samples and documentation from competitive vendors in search of best quality, price, and product availability.
  18. Identifies and resolves any invoice issues.
  19. Active participant in new product introductions, fully supporting all aspects of finished product packaging meets customer specifications and timelines.
  20. Ensures approval of new vendor supplied packaging designs from internal stakeholders, records approvals, and maintains a database and samples of packaging variants.

Work Environment

This position operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and fax machines. This position is occasionally exposed to loud, wet, warm, humid and cold temperatures.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position with regular office hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hours may vary on occasion depending on work load.

Required Qualifications

  1. 5+ years experience in purchasing and negotiation, preferably focused on packaging
  2. SAP experience
  3. Associates degree minimum education
