Packaging Corporation of America (PCA) seeks to hire a full-time Data Science Analyst to work in Lake Forest, Illinois.

The Data Science Analyst will enhance and consolidate the current analytical platform across all PCA's business units. The Data Science Analyst is required to make independent decisions based upon sound industry practices and existing corporate regulations.

The Data Science Analyst's duties include:

  • Infuse current industry standards and best practices to meet the needs of stakeholders to be able to rapidly access and analyze data to ensure they're making the most informed decisions possible.
  • Strategize data collection and organization at each of the PCA's eight mills and eighty five plant locations.
  • Develop and organize datasets at two tiers, at corporate and at each location, to feed into trend analysis and predictive models.
  • Work with database admins on creating and maintaining data propagation processes from local sites into data warehouses.
  • Aid data architects in developing distributed datasets to feed into machine learning algorithms at the local site levels, and propagate data led analysis to data warehouses based on the patterns and deviations found in the data.
  • Carry out development to create codes/programs to comb through data with techniques like data mining, machine learning, mathematical and statistical modeling.
  • Perform recurring and ad hoc quantitative analysis to support decision making by translating data into visualizations, metrics, and goals.
  • Review processes to improve efficiencies thereby accelerating time from data to insights to decisions.
  • Develop and standardize data visualization techniques which can be extended to mobile devices.
  • Integrate analytics, data insights and KPIs into current reporting system for delivery on a scheduled basis.
  • Interact with security team to incorporate data filters such that data only flows to the groups of users having privilege to view relevant data.
  • Provide user support and training on analytical and visualization platform.
  • Report progress on project assignments and establishment of timelines.
  • Resolve problems for currently supported dashboards in accordance with established priorities.
  • Test and carry out quality assurance activities associated with delivery of data analysis either via reports or visualizations.
  • Perform all activities in accordance with department standards.
  • Knows and follows policies and procedures of the company, shares information that would benefit other members of the team, and finds ways to improve the delivery of service to our customers.

The minimum requirement for the position are:

  • Master's Degree in Data Science.
  • At least one year of experience manipulating data sets and building analytical models. Occupation may be Data Analyst, Data Analyst Intern or closely related occupation.
  • Knowledge of AI, Big Data and machine learning techniques such as trending, clustering, decision tree learning, artificial neural networks and time-series analysis and forecasting.
  • Knowledge of statistical and data mining techniques including generalized linear model/regression, random forest, boosting, trees, text mining, social network analysis, natural language processing and properties of distributions.
  • Experience visualizing/presenting data using Power BI or Oracle Analytics is required.
  • Experience using statistical/computer languages such as R, Python, SQL, NoSQL, JavaScript, JQuery, JSON, XML, HTML, XHTML.
  • Familiarity with RDBMS systems like Oracle and SQL Server, and concepts like table partitioning, materialized views, analytical functions and regular expressions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent project management skills.

Travel requirements: This position requires participation in in-person conferences across the US on as needed basis which entails travelling. Travel for conferences is infrequent.

The physical location for this position is corporate headquarters located in Lake Forest, IL, and daily reporting for work duties in Lake Forest is required. Request for working remotely will not be honored.
