Position Summary

The Plant Manager in Waukesha directs and oversees the manufacturing plant for a $100MM fabricated roof edge metal operation which spans across 3 shifts working 7 days a week and includes 125+ indirect and direct labor teammates. This facility is part of the Carlisle Architectural Metals Division. The Plant Manager has 5 direct reports including Materials Manager, Production Manager, Quality Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, Maintenance Manager. The Plant Manager is responsible for a smooth-running operation, with limited down-time, that meets the demand of our sales growth of 15-20% YOY with efficiencies to reduce our overall operating costs. Responsible for meeting division goals, control the P&L, develop CapEx budget, and manage KPI s through effective staffing, performance management, and policy and procedural enforcement. With a strong focus on quality, safety and continuous improvement, this high-level leader influences and works with many cross-functional departments to assure organizational objectives are met. This is a high custom environment with limited forecasting capabilities. Looking for a rockstar up for the challenge!


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible to oversee all (currently, 3) shifts of our non-union, durable goods manufacturing facility, developing and implementing plans and processes to minimize costs through effective utilization of manpower, equipment, facilities, materials and capital equipment.
  • Direct supervision, assistance, and formal performance management of Production Manager, Materials Manager, Maintenance Manager, Quality Engineer, and Manufacturing Engineer. Indirect responsibility of 120+ non-exempt manufacturing employees.
  • Foster a safe and effective work environment with a focus on teamwork, accuracy, and quality by leading our Safety Team and the drive to zero. Motivate, reward, and performance manage all staff to adhere to expectations by monitoring and enforcing stated company policies, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Generate and influence weekly/monthly/quarterly scorecard reports on inventory levels, materials movements, and performance metrics for management review and in alignment with organizational goals and initiatives. Assess, identify, implement, and track appropriate actions taken, as needed.
  • Utilize and support lean, six sigma, and cellular manufacturing methodologies to improve efficiencies by reducing waste and process variation.
  • Participate in Material Review Board activities for disposition of non-conforming or suspect materials. Assist in quality monitoring; including assisting in internal investigations of NCR s, CPPM, and production lot control.


Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s Degree in Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Quality Management, or related Manufacturing or Engineering degree.
  • 5+ years experience working in a manufacturing shop environment. Metal fabrication experience a plus.
  • 5+ years experience in a leadership position, overseeing a minimum of three (3) professional-level direct reports. Proven track record of successfully leading, motivating, and coaching your people.
  • High-energy leader that values having fun at work while achieving exceptional results.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; including the ability to effectively communicate verbally and in-writing externally, and internally - at all levels of the organization.
  • Adaptable and flexible leader that is comfortable both delegating the work and doing the work. Demonstrated ability in recent positions to understand when each is appropriate.
  • Analytical and critical thinker that can quickly assess problems and generate creative and effective solutions. Understands when to collaborate and leverage the input of others.
  • Strong computing skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Proven ability to quickly learn new software programs and systems.
  • Ability to effectively time-manage and prioritize one s own workload. Can handle consistent interruptions and effectively re-prioritize when faced with change and unforeseen challenges.
  • High attention to detail and a consistent history of accuracy in completed work.
  • Above-average follow-up skills in an environment that forces multi-tasking.
  • Must demonstrate a high level of integrity and professional discretion; with the demonstrated ability to appropriately handle sensitive and confidential information and situations.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in the Roofing industry or sheet metal fabrication is helpful, but not required.
  • Six Sigma or lean manufacturing certifications are preferred, but not required.
  • Previous experience with purchasing and/or materials costing preferred, but not required.
  • Previous experience with ERP/MRP systems integrations and adoptions preferred, but not required. Epicor experience is a plus.
  • Self-motivated interest in staying current with updates and trends in the Manufacturing, Operations, Lean, and/or Automation Sciences. Related professional memberships and/or certifications are strongly encouraged, but not required.


Work Environment

The position is primarily a plant-based position with regular visits to the office. Typically, the majority (<80%) of a standard 10-to-12-hour workday will be spent standing and/or walking around the manufacturing floor. Frequently, the incumbent will work 50+ hours per week to successfully complete his or her duties and is on call 24 hours for the Plant.


The role is primarily scheduled weekdays between the hours of 7am-7pm, however, due to the nature of our many manufacturing shifts, the incumbent is expected to work a varied schedule including days, nights, and weekends. Additionally, some projects, initiative or situations may require the flexibility to work on weekends or during second-shift hours for extended periods of time.


The incumbent occasionally performs work-related travel, less than 20% of the time, to other CAM facilities.


Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand or walk; sit; talk or hear; and use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk, as well as be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up-to 100 pounds, typically in a team-lift environment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
