Job Title: Middle Grades (5-8) Science Teacher & AP Biology Teacher

Reports to: Middle Grades (5-8) Division Director

Role Duration: Faculty 10 months, full time

Job Description

Ashley Hall seeks a full-time Science teacher for grades 5-8: a full-time, 10-month position that will begin August 2023. The candidate will teach Introduction to Biological Sciences in the 7th grade and one section of AP Biology.

Qualifications and Personal Attributes

The successful candidate will have a love for teaching and working with 10-14 year olds predominantly, and a small section of 17-18 year olds; placing them at the center of their learning experience. Such an inspirational teacher must be energetic, enthusiastic, and possess an excellent knowledge and understanding of the subjects they are to teach. The ideal candidate must possess the skills and determination to make a significant difference in the lives of our students and embrace the school's hallmarks and mission statement.

Major Responsibilities

  • Developing engaging lesson plans designed to foster intellectual curiosity and a love of learning.
  • Tailoring curriculum to connect to local geography and environment through interdisciplinary study.
  • Supporting students in their mathematics development.
  • Ensuring creativity and high quality of teaching and learning.
  • Fostering a caring atmosphere and showing commitment to the well-being and social and academic progress of each student.
  • Sharing responsibilities for curriculum development, and other departmental and divisional priorities, including trips (national and international).
  • Collaborate with other faculty in grades 5-8 to facilitate the transition to the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) curriculum framework.


Key Requirements
  • Master's degree in Science or in Education, with a major or concentration in a science preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience working with middle grades students; specifically those in grades 5-8.
  • Experience teaching the AP Biology curriculum.
  • Interest in and proficiency with developmentally-appropriate strategies for teaching middle school-aged children.
  • Curriculum development knowledge.
  • Commitment to ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Willingness to collaborate and work as part of a team.
  • Ancillary duties and responsibilities as assigned.
