Job Description Diet Tech, Food Services - FT Days - 7451-2758 **Description**
The Diet Tech assists in providing nutritional care to patient in accordance with the philosophy, objectives and policies of VVMC. The primary responsibilities of the Diet Tech is to serve as an advocate for our patient's nutritional needs (Infant to geriatric) and as a liaison between patients and nutritional services while performing customer service duties. This position requires a high level of customer service to establish and enhance positive relationships with patients, employees etc.
Represents Valley View Medical Center to all customers, patients, families, visitors and employees as a caring, concerned compassionate and efficient healthcare organization.Supports VVMC's goals, objectives policies and procedures.Develops a pleasant report with the patients, families and nursing staff while effectively handling customer service issues using customer focused skills.Serves as an advocate for the patient's nutritional needsAs assigned, mentors/trains new employees following the Lifepoint guidelines and standards of behavior.Visits patients to introduce the services of the Food and Nutrition Services Department (FNS).Collects patient information on dietary preferences, allergies, and sensitivities and ensures the collected information is communicated with the other department food service workers.Discusses the room service plan with patient's and families. Demonstrating the menu and how it applies to the diet restrictions the patient may have.
Assists with preparing food and beverages for distribution to patients, guests, service/dining areas, and catering servicesAssists with the delivery of nourishments and/or snacks to patients as ordered by the physician (diabetics)
Stores food, beverages, and supplies in designated containers and areas according to policies andprocedures.
Responsible for promoting adequate nutritional care through appropriate correction and modification of patient menus and the delivery of patient meals in prompt, safe and sanitary manner.
Assists with preparing food and beverages for distribution for patients, guests and staff.Assists with catering and special events.Inventories and re-stocks FNS dept and specific units within the hospital.Maintains temperature logs for unit refrigerators and freezers.
Assists with sanitation duties, including dishwashing and maintaining work and food service areas in a clean, safe, and orderly condition.
Maintains computer skills required to process patient diet orders, inventory, and daily unit functions.

**Qualifications**
**Minimum Education**
High school diploma or equivalent X PREFERRED
**Minimum Work Experience**
Must have a minimum of 3-5 years experience in hospital food service. X REQUIRED
**Required SkillsCERTIFICATIONS:**
Must maintain current food handlers certificate from the AZ department of health servicesExperience and/or training in special diet modificationsMust be able to adhere to all departmental, county, state and Joint Commission standards/regulations regarding food service.
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.Must be able to work in confined spaces.Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.Must be able to work in an organized fashion and handle multiple priorities.
