Job Overview

The Production Operations Manager is a member of the Manufacturing Leadership Team responsible for providing to the operations the execution and change management leadership, administration work process and continuous improvement using TPM, Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma Operational Excellence Tools. This critical role directly oversees the production operations relevant to printing, extrusion coating, slitting and prepress operations.


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provide leadership and direction in delivering the established KPI s for existing operations and provide continuous improvement by using TPM, Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma tools standard for the company.
  • Ownership of both creating and executing Loss Analysis and Action Planning to eliminate identified losses.
  • Oversee for production operations relevant to press, extrusion coating, slitting, and prepress activities. Ensuring daily priorities are executed.
  • Directly oversee Supervisors and Hourly employees for 4 Operational Shifts, in total a group of near 100 people and operating budget of $10Million.
  • Work closely with internal scheduling, materials logistics, suppliers, development, engineering and maintenance, customers, development, in-house graphics and pre-press as well as sales and marketing.
  • Initiate and refine programs for cost reduction and waste elimination.
  • Ensuring the execution of standard practices being deployed from the Technical Process Engineering office.
  • Understand the fundamental elements of structure and effort required for cultural change for teams on the floor. Transforming the behaviors and practices on the floor that ensure proper execution in line with the standard current and newly deployed.
  • Further develop and refine continuous training and improvement opportunities.
  • Identify, hire, and develop the next generation of press management and hourly personnel. Use powering achievements and role progression work processes.
  • Continually instill, maintain, and upgrade quality standards within the workforce while supporting both plant and corporate quality standards and methodology.
  • Ensure compliance in organizational policy and applicable laws involving the hiring, training, maintaining, rewarding, disciplining, and appraising employees.
  • Maintain and continuously improve a positive work environment.
  • Be the driver for print technology within the company.


Skills Required

  • Operations Management of a medium to large sized industrial printing organization or department, with a track record for increasing productivity, profitability, and plant efficiencies.
  • Experience in building and leading functional teams in a manufacturing environment while successfully instilling a sense of urgency and commitment.
  • Delivering on all Operational Excellence KPI s noted by the S-Q-D/P-C-M scorecard.
  • Track record of lowering or maintaining below budget organizations while increasing labor productivity.
  • Strong record of safety performance. Understand and follow EHS standards.
  • Strong record involving waste reduction and maintaining acceptable levels of scrap per work order as per the standards expected from the operation.
  • Good listening / facilitation skills in leading, mentoring and developing personnel.
  • Career and leadership aspirations of assuming more responsibility as the company continues to grow.


Skills Preferred

  • Printing experience to include flexographic web and/or rotogravure.
  • Technical experience with the elements required for an efficient printing operation.
  • Understanding of Mounting, Color Matching and Printing Setup and Changeover.
  • Functional leadership experience with quality systems (e.g. ISO, SPC, 6 Sigma).


Leadership Influence

  • Accountable for direct supervision of the work activities of others. In addition to personnel issues -- including selection, termination, performance appraisal and professional development of direct reports.
  • Coaches, trains, and develops Associates informally and through formal training programs, providing both informal (e.g. on-floor coaching) and formal (e.g. written evaluation) job performance-based feedback. Maintains a great work environment by creating an employee-centered workplace.
  • Executes an effective DDS (Daily Direction Setting), Weekly Reviews by Department and Monthly KPI s review meetings with teams under his leadership.
  • Requires flexibility to support meetings with teams from Morning or Night shift as it requires to communicate direction setting and stay in touch with execution.


Qualifications

B.S. degree preferred, however, experience in building and leading functional printing organizations while successfully instilling a sense of urgency and commitment overrides the need for a college degree.
