The McDonald Laboratory of Integrative Omics ( at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) has an opening for a post-doctoral fellow. The ideal applicant has a PhD in genetic epidemiology, biostatistics, bioinformatics, data science or genetics. Proficiency in R and at least one scripting language such as Python is required. Mastery of the English language including strong writing and public speaking skills is required.

Our lab is primarily a dry lab and has a major focus on studying and translating omics determinants of musculoskeletal health and pathology in diseases including COPD cachexia, osteoarthritis and muscle wasting in critical care. The post-doctoral fellow will apply methods of genome analysis to large-scale human datasets (genetics, transcriptomic, proteomics, metabolomics) and cell culture systems with the primary goal of identifying and characterizing genetic variants and molecular mechanisms that modify risk for musculoskeletal diseases. Large-scale data science projects will harness multi-omics data from National consortia including Trans-Omics for Precision Medicine (TOPMed), All of Us and the Million Veteran Program (MVP), as well as prospective studies of COPD cachexia and muscle wasting in critical care.
