QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate, with proper endorsement(s) in assigned area(s). Bachelor's degree in K-12 Special Education. Criminal justice fingerprint clearance.

  • Ability to use a variety of informal teacher-made tests to assess pre-academics, academics, fine motor, gross motor, social/behavioral, pre-vocational, self-help, and language skills.
  • Ability to identify through formal and informal testing the strengths and areas of growth in the self-help and prevocational areas.
  • Ability to assist the OT/PT in building skills in the fine/gross and functional motor areas.
  • Ability to assist the SLP in teaching receptive, functional and expressive language skills.
  • Ability to provide training in self-help and prevocational skills in cooperation with the GQP as determined by individual assessment.
  • Ability to carry out and modify behavior modification programs in cooperation with GQP.
  • Ability to provide to parents/families specific techniques or programs to intervene, maintain and/or change identified strengths/areas of growth.
  • Ability to demonstrate growth in: pre-academic, academic, fine motor, gross motor, self-help, pre-vocational, language, social/behavioral areas.
  • Ability to lift 100 pounds occasionally, with assistance

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Develop interpersonal relations with the staff, students and parents to establish a positive school climate.
  • Provide appropriate preparation for state-mandated testing
  • Confer with students on an individual basis regarding their educational progress and behavioral and social development.
  • Conduct parent and/or parent-student conferences to interpret students' educational, social/behavioral, and physical development, and interpret program rationale.
  • Assume responsibility to participate as a building team member in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of school program.
  • Coordinate and collaborate programs and instruction between basic classroom and all special needs placements, including community based option.
  • Follow functional life skills program with adopted curriculum and suggest appropriate changes.
  • Attend to the health and safety of students in the instructional setting.
