In addition to academic excellence, KIPP Columbus also partners with nearly 100 community organizations to provide extracurricular activities, programming, health and wellness services, meals, and more to KIPP students, families, and the broader community. The KIPP Columbus learning campus will continue to advance student learning, expand partnerships, enable superior programming, and serve as a teaching and leadership lab for schools nationwide, reimagining education through a deeper lens of antiracism, excellence, and joy as we expand to educate nearly 4,000 students on our learning campus in the coming years.

The Opportunity

At KIPP Columbus, we want to elevate the support we provide the families of the students that attend our schools. This position will contribute to supporting the educational process by ensuring students develop and maintain good attendance practices. The Attendance Coordinator is a regional position that will report to the Director of Student Life.

Job Description

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Work closely with the Director of Student Life and School Leaders in the monitoring of students' attendance.
  • Make visits as needed to students' residences to develop healthy, positive family attitudes toward academic success, attendance at school, and student growth and development
  • Maintain records of meetings, communications (phone calls, emails, etc.), and home visits regarding attendance
  • Confer and collaborate regularly with school staff and other support personnel regarding students who are chronically absent/tardy
  • Run attendance reporting through Powerschool
  • Monitor and support Absence Intervention Teams
  • Attend court and mediation for educational neglect and truancy
  • Serve as building liaison on attendance issues
  • Counsel students regarding absenteeism and tardiness to gain their cooperation and identify any underlying problems that may warrant intervention by other professional staff members
  • Submit written reports regarding attendance to the Director of Student Life and School Leaders as requested
  • Participate in appropriate professional development and attend all required meetings
  • Protect the confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties and use discretion in sharing such information within legal confines
  • Adhere to Ohio school law, State Board of Education rules and regulations, Board of Education policies and regulations, and school regulations and procedures regarding attendance and truancy reporting
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Use of a vehicle for transportation with a valid driver's license and proof of insurance
  • Knowledgeable of Google Suite (specifically Google Sheets), typing, and operation of common office equipment
  • Ability to work with the community, including parents, students, administration, and school staff
  • Ability to work independently
  • Exhibits professional behavior, emotions stability, and sound judgment
  • Ability to handle confidential matters, set priorities, work well under pressure, with an attention to detail
  • Ability to greet and deal with public, students and school staff courteously and appropriately, both by phone and in
  • person
  • Outstanding organizational skills and high attention to detail; outstanding written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to manage the ambiguity and multiple priorities inherent in an entrepreneurial environment.
  • Knowledgeable of the various school platforms, i.e. Powerschool, Schoolmint, etc.
  • Excellent problem solving skills, with an ability to understand impact of short-term and long-term solutions
  • An integrated systems builder with the ability to both build and scale best practices across multiple schools
  • Adept at thinking strategically, translating plans into action, and exhibiting excellent judgment
