What The Role Entails


CloudHQ is seeking an experienced Senior Systems Administrator with a strong focus on Operational Technology (OT) and Industrial Control Systems (ICS) environments. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, security, and availability of our core systems, including servers, networks, storage, specialized OT devices, and critical backup and monitoring solutions. You'll work as part of a collaborative team, leading projects, and mentoring other IT members while ensuring the unique requirements of OT systems are met.



What You Get to Do


Design and implement robust and scalable system architectures in line with business needs, industry best practices, and OT-specific security standards, considering both Ubuntu and Windows operating systems

Collaborate on disaster recovery and business continuity planning with a focus on the needs of critical OT systems, including backup strategies utilizing Bacula or related solutions

Install, configure, and maintain servers (Ubuntu and Windows), network devices (Cisco, Juniper), Fortinet security appliances, backup solutions (Bacula or related), and network monitoring tools (LibreNMS or related)

Proactively monitor system performance and capacity with an emphasis on OT/ICS devices, anticipating future infrastructure requirements

Troubleshoot complex system, network, application-level issues, and specialized challenges within an OT environment

Implement and maintain rigorous security measures across our systems, with specific expertise in OT/ICS security frameworks and best practices

Configure and manage Fortinet firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and vulnerability scanning within the OT environment

Enforce security policies, regularly audit OT systems, and educate users on security best practices across both Ubuntu and Windows environments

Deep understanding of OT/ICS protocols like BacNet and ModBus

Experience in configuring and troubleshooting OT-specific devices and communication networks

Ability to balance IT security requirements with operational needs and limitations of legacy OT systems

Design, implement, and manage backup solutions using Bacula or similar enterprise-grade backup systems

Install, configure, and utilize LibreNMS (or related systems) for comprehensive network monitoring and proactive alerting

Automate routine tasks and processes to enhance efficiency and reduce errors

Develop and maintain scripts in languages such as PowerShell or Python, taking into account OT systems, compatibility across Windows and Ubuntu, and integration with backup/monitoring tools

Create and maintain clear technical documentation, including system configurations, procedures, network diagrams, backup/restore plans, and security incident response plans specifically for the OT environment

Mentor and train junior IT staff members, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and a deep understanding of OT technologies



What You Bring to The Role



A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience

Minimum of five (5) years of hands-on experience as a Systems Administrator with at least 2+ of those years in an OT/ICS focused role

Strong expertise in both Ubuntu Server and Windows Server, along with network administration with Cisco and Juniper devices

In-depth knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, etc.), Fortinet firewalls, and network security principles

Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V, ProxMox.)

Experience with enterprise-level backup solutions (Bacula preferred)

Experience with network monitoring tools (LibreNMS preferred)

Demonstrated scripting/automation abilities (PowerShell, Python, etc.)

Strong problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with IT, engineering, and operations teams



Our Ideal Candidate Will Also Possess


Experience with cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP, or equivalent) is a plus

Relevant industry certifications in networking, security, OT-specific certifications, or backup solutions
