As a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) specializing in bridge inspection, your primary responsibility is to ensure the safety and structural integrity of bridges. You ll assess weldments, materials, and construction practices to verify compliance with industry standards and specifications. Here are the key duties and skills associated with this role:
- Bridge Inspection:
- Inspect bridges for structural defects such as cracks, corrosion, or signs of wear and tear.
- Review structural drawings and calculations to determine if they meet building codes.
- Conduct load tests on bridges to ensure they can support the weight of vehicles that may use them.
- Welding Inspection:
- Perform dimensional inspections of fabricated parts, including welds and bolted connections.
- Ensure proper welding techniques are followed during bridge construction.
- Verify weld preparations and final welds for quality and compliance with standards.
- Quality Control:
- Complete required quality control inspection reports.
- Calibrate and use inspection equipment effectively.
- Collaborate with other inspectors and supervisors to maintain high-quality standards.
- Certification and Qualifications:
- Hold an AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
- Familiarity with steel bridge erection and fabrication inspection is preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent is typically required.
- Skills and Attributes:
- Attention to detail and strong observational skills.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Knowledge of welding processes, materials, and safety protocols.

- Work Environment:
