Position: Supervisor of Teaching and Learning
Reports to: Director of Teaching and Learning

Description: Oversee the implementation of all aspects of the K-12 language arts, math, social studies, science and ancillary curriculum areas including curriculum development work, professional development in curricular areas, materials and textbook acquisition, instructional software and utilization. Coordinate curriculum development and implement with building administrators, other coordinators, and building-level content leaders. Support activities also include K-12 testing, development of new programs, special projects, data collection, and twenty-first century learning activities.

Essential Functions:

  • Serve as facilitator for all curriculum-writing projects
  • Responsible for implementing curriculum review and alignment with state academic content standards
  • Responsible for the coordination of material review and adoption of K-12
  • Maintain respect at all times for confidential information, e.g., test scores, student/personnel information
  • Interact positively with staff, students, and parents
  • Attend meetings and in-services as required
  • Meet regularly with department heads, team leaders, curriculum leaders, and principals to discuss curriculum implementation
  • Coordinate/assist in districtwide programs or special projects with a curriculum impact
  • Reports to the Director of Teaching and Learning on all curriculum-related projects
  • Collect and utilize data for program evaluation, modification, and revision of programs
  • Provide continuing professional development programs to assist teachers in the implementation of the curriculum
  • ?Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • Master's degree or equivalent, plus five years administrative experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • License in educational administration from the State of Ohio
  • Alternative to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate?
  • Demonstrated knowledge or experience in curriculum development and implementation
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of the Ohio Improvement Process
  • Demonstrated knowledge of student learning theories and practice
  • Demonstrative experience in the implementation of technology into the instructional program
  • Demonstrated knowledge or experience in the administration of federal and state grants
  • Knowledge of school finance
  • Strong visionary and leadership skills
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to work effectively with others

The Garfield Heights City School prides itself on providing a rigorous and comprehensive pre-k through 12th-grade educational curriculum that clearly focuses on student success through college and career readiness. To that end, Garfield Heights High School offers a variety of Advanced Placement courses, including AP English, AP Government, AP American History, Honors Chemistry, Honors Calculus, Honors Physical Science, and more. While the District offers these high-level academic courses, the GHCS also proudly sends more than 225 students on an annual basis to the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center for those individuals deeply interested in learning a skilled profession or hands-on expertise in one of the trades. Middle School students have increasingly greater opportunities to prepare themselves for high school and parents are readily encouraged to be involved. Elementary School students in the GHCS also participate in such valuable literacy programs as LETRs and social/emotional initiatives as the Zones of Regulation. The GHCS places a great deal of emphasis at all levels of education on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (P.B.I.S.) and each school has won awards from the State of Ohio for encouraging and promoting positive behavior.

A wide variety of co-curricular offerings are available to students of all ages in the Garfield Heights City Schools as well. Such opportunities include more than 18 varsity sports, the district's show choir, Music Express, Marching Band, Theater, A 'Capella Choir, National Honor Society, Student Council, Glass Ceiling, Future Engineers, and more. These co-curricular offerings are award-winning on the state, regional and local levels. Students can expect success when they become involved in the various academic, co-curricular, and student leadership organizations in this District.
